Incredible, is the only word that I. have in my limited vocabulary to des- ¢ cribe the re-action shown by the people of the Green- bank, Saintfield, Seagrave, and area, to our fund rais- ing drive. To say "thank you", seems quite inadequate, but you have our sincere thanks as well as our pledge that we will endeavour to build a cubbing organisation that will be fitting and a tribute to your trust, As everyone well knows, every undertaking initiated in this day of high cost, seems to 'deplete even an aptimists hopes, as well as his 'wallet. Smms EDITOR However, because of our good neighbours in this area, we are going to be able to initiate our organi- sation with enough finan. cial support to fully pay all members registration fee, approx. $150.00, plus an. other $10000 towards ne- cessary badges, flags and equipment, In the immediate future we will be putting on at least two euchres, to fur- ther raise money to equip this group to hold the boys interest, and to involve them in programmes to benefit themselves andthe community they live in, The dates of these euchres will ¥ 2 MILEY = Bit UGAR AND Smor groan just like the Kids, from my observations, 98 per cent of them are happy to get back into harness. And I do mean harness. They've had a long holiday. Theoretically, they have 'recharged their batteries." They too, have become bored. They have spent too much money, as everyone does on holidays. They will have new students, and there might even be a few bright ones. They are going to teach better this year. They have new ideas they want to try. They've forgotten how ghastly it all is in February. Personally, my battery has run down during the summer, and I'll have to recharge it at school. This will be easy. Just attach your cables to '150 kids, and -the sparks will fly. Spring is supposed to be the time of rebirth, reawakening and such. But in Canada, we don't have any spring. Just some rain and mud between the misery of March and lushness of June. In this country, we all seem to come alive in September. And getting back to school is like getting back to reality after the dream-like quality of summer holidays. Let's go, gang! filled! off NOW. @ LIONS CLUB OF PORT PERRY INC. eo Win up to $500. Pollard (HUK UP i lig, 400 High School students walk out Continued want is the use of the facilities that have been ours in the past to use now. Steve Cochrane: We've been in contact with Mr, M. Mowbray, chairman of the Board, and he said that ' negotiations have been cut off and the teachers are prepared to "work to rule" for as long as necessary, and this could possibly go on for the entire year. We also feel that we are being used as a tool by the teachers so they can get what they want in their bargaining. Itis not that we are against the teachers, itis just the means by which they are trying to achieve their goal. Jayne Hall: I am not talking for myself, but the athletes will be out of shape if they can't keep up with their training, and the school is no fun without activities and dances. Cindy Pedzikowski: I do not think thatitis fair to the kids that participate in the activ- ities. Al Reeves: This is a teachers labour dispute. Itis not fair to the students to have no activities available to them. Today (Wednesday) the students will go to school and register, then they will walk out again, and this will go on until somebody does some- thing to rectify the situation. bh Way 2 SEE THE ALL NEW [A SEPTEMBER 21st AT Q> Wed to Sat SEPT. 13-16 ROSS & MARG'S CARLOAD FOOD MARKET PRINCE ALBERT -- Phone 7% 985-2492 48 oz.
