The guests were members of the Historical Society Choir. Mr, and Mrs. Harold Ar- mitage of Ottawa were guests for the holiday week- end of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Ireland and family, Mr. and Mrs. R., S. Jeff rey of Oshawa spent the week-end with Mrs, C. C. Jeffrey and Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Slemmon. Regarding the Corn Roast to be . held on Friday, September 15, 1972, we have found it necessary to change the location. Many relatives and friends from Port Perry attended the McNenly - Smith wed- Rehearsal for Concordia Philharmonic On Monday, August 28, the executive of the newly- formed Concordia Philhar- monic held its final meeting to prepare for the opening of the 1972 - 73 season. The chairman of the per- sonnel committee, Dan Lon- gauer, was pleased to report that almost fifty players have expressed an interest in joining the new orchestra. There is still room for more musicians, especially strings. The executive is particularly interested in having local young musi- cians take advantagve of this opportunity to gain exper- ience in symphonic playing. Plans are almost com- pleted for an orchestral concert early in December with Larry Marshall, tenor, as soloist. The conductor and music director, Barry Devereux, reported briefly on his at- tendance at the founding conference of the Associ- ation of Canadian Orches- tras in Winnipeg. He said that it had been a good source of ideas, and will provide a pool of information for all Canadian orchestras. President Len Taylor ex- pressed gratitude to the Oshawa Recreation Depart- ment and the local press for the co-operation they have given the new orchestra, and pointed out what to continue to merit this assistance the Concordia Philharmonic must establish and maintain a policy of service to the community.
