Wanamaker honoured Over 400 persons attend Reception in High School The Grand Master of the Independent Order of Odd- fellows, Jurisdiction of Ont- ario, Glenn A. Wanamaker was honoured by over 400 persons at a Reception in the High School Cafeteria Satur- day night. Members of the Order of Oddfellows arrived in Port Perry from every corner of Ontario and as far as Schreiber, 800 miles away. Also attending were mem- bers of Rebekah Lodges throughout Ontario affiliated with the Order of Odd- fellows. Included among the - . guests were many friends and family members of Mr. and Mrs. Wanamaker. Re- presenting the Jurisdiction of Michigan, of the same Order across the border was Deputy Grand Master Larry Demaras, Detroit, U.S.A. District Deputy Grand Master Ron Wanamaker welcomed the large gather- ing and said he was indeed happy to see so many showing the spirit of friend- ship by attending and ex- tended best wishes to the Grand Master and his wife Marjorie. Earle Geer, M.C. intro- duced the various speakers and persons making pre- : - sentations to the popular couple. Norene Crosier, Noble Grand of Maybelle Lodge and Wm. Barr, Noble Grand of Warriner Lodge spoke glowingly about Mr. Wan- amaker's - great contribut- ions to the Order of Odd- fellows and presented him with cheques of substantial amounts. Mrs. Wanamaker was presented with a bou- quet of flowers by Mrs, Earle Geer and two lovely daugh- ters, Nancy and Sylvia and Mrs. Wanamaker presented father and husband with a gift. When Mr. rose to deliver his address the large crowd of 400 rose with him and gave him an enthusiastic and warm re- ception. When the lengthy applause had died down, Mr. Wana- maker said "There comes a time in a person's life you seem to be at a loss for word and this seems to be my time." Mr. Wanamaker spoke with a great deal of dedica- tion and fervour about his pet subject, the Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Order of the Rebekahs and it was only natural he should single out the two local organizations. He ' emphasized strongly the importance of working along with other organizat- ions, such as the Lions Club, Kinsmen Club, church organizations, etc. '"'We are all brothers in Port Perry, regardless of the organi- zation we belong to or regardless of denomination, race or creed," Mr. Wana- maker said. "I believe, Quafllons gro) Wanamaker : : have a message to the World and we are not in compet- ition with anyone. We don't want. success if: it come from the failure of som other organization," he pointed out. In. his closing remarks, Mr. Wanamaker paid tribute to his wife Marjorie for her staunch support at all times and to all the members ofe Warriner and Maybelle Lodges. "I accept the office of Grand Master humbly and - with a great deal of grati- tude. I also accept the responsibility that goes with it and promise to fill the office with the dignity it deserves." Mrs. Gladys Brown of Orono added much to the excellent atmosphere during the dinner entertaining with an. appropriate selection of organ music. "Mr. and Mrs. M. Dowson and his large staff, including the young high school girls deserve a compliment for the efficient way they hand- led catering to the large® crowd.
