Vi 24-PORT PERRY STAR-Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1972 Honeydale W.I. entertainment for Nursing Home By Mabel Cawker The September meeting under the leadership of Convener Mrs, Gordon Shunk. was held in the Municipal Hall with a fair attendance. The President, Mrs. Thos. Bell chaired the meeting . opening in regular form, and extended a cordial welcome to one and all. Members were pleased to have two visitors present. Due to the absence of the Sec'y, Mrs. Stan Ploughman capably filled the chair. The "Roll Call" was ans- wered by each member composing a short poem about the Women's Institute which proved most inter- esting. : Members are planning to entertain the residents of the Community Nursing Home on Wednesday, September 20th - 2 pm, As many members as possible please. attend and help bring a little sunshine into the lives of these fine folk at the Nursing Home, Mrs, C. DeYonge will convene the Programme, The W.I. gave a donation of money to the 4-H Club girls to help defray expenses of the fall unit - "Block Printing". Miss Alice Dod . and Mrs. Frank Whitfield have been in Uxbridge this * past week taking training in this project. The 4-H Home- making Club is a very important part of Women's Institute work, and we would like all members, as well as mothers of the girls, to take a real interest in the 4-H girls and the programme carried out. (For the information of our readers) - the 4-H Clubs are organized and directed by County and District Home Economists and sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. They carry the W.I, Crest, and make nice gifts for members, or overseas W.I. pen friends. Cards were sent to the ill, and we do wish one and all, a speedy recovery. The Motto - 'Bread is the symbol of Home, and Hope and Hospitality". The "thoughts" on the motto were written by Mrs, Fred Raines and read by Mrs. Skunk. Mrs. Skunk took the chair for the programme and introduced her sister Mrs. Ed Jennings of Eden Mills, who treated members to a very interesting resume of her recent trip through England, Wales and Scot- land. Many beautiful slides were shown of Historic sites, - old castles, - cathedrals - sea-side views, lovely flower gardens, as well as scenic beauty throughout the countryside - to mention a few. : Appreciation was expres- sed by the Pres. Mrs. Tom Bell, and the meeting closed with Oh Canada! Unusual adult night course Decoupage has come to Uxbridge Secondary School. An art or a hobby, it's fun! It's not a person, place, or thing - it's a beautiful old 17th Century Italian art that is just now beginning to flourish in Canada, and is having a tremendous revival among those with a drive for doing something creative. It is defined as the art of permanently decorating wooden surfaces with cut-out paper designs (the source is limitless - children's books, greeting cards, wallpaper, magazines). Then many coats of varnish are applied until the design becomes an integral part of the surface - the more coats, the greater the beauty and dimensional effect. If you take up this craft, you will be joining a growing group of enthusiasts, and the adult evening program at Uxbridge Secondary School is offering a ten week course this Fall season. It will be taught = by Mary-Louise Whitmore,.who has a back- ground of teaching Decou- page in Metro Schools, adult recreation programs and occupational therapy classes in hospitals and institutions. In . Decoupage, one is limited only by imagination. The school will be offering for a second year, a course in Chair Caning, and will be taught by Mr. Ed Brown, who is well known for his interest in restoring items of historic and antique value. ~ Domestic & Industrial | WIRING CALL US FOR FREE ESTJMATES ON COMPLETE ELECTRICAL HOME HEAT 17" COLOR CUSTOM WESTINGHOUSE 26" Color Consoles UHF - VHF, Auto Color & Tint, Illuminated Channel Selector.
