The Town of Bowmanville is the principal urban centre in a third large-area muni- cipality proposed for the region. This amalgamation would create a 200-square- mile municipality by com- bining Bowmanville with the Village of Newcastle, all of Clarke Township, most of Darlington Township and the southern two concessions of Manvers Township. The population would be 22,300. "This municipality," the proposal comments, "will be a strong, slowly urbanizing area that will act as a rural land-use buffer between the two growth nodes of Oshawa and Port Hope-Cobourg." The smallest municipality in population would also be the most easterly in the region. It .would consist of the townships of Haldimand and Alnwick, plus the nor- thernmost concession of Hamilton Township. Their combined population is 4,300 spread over an area of 170 square miles. The proposal says this amalgamation will provide a means of controll- ing growth at Rice Lake and in the area east of Cobourg -- a step that will be important as Cobourg grows. Ninth on the province's list of proposed area municipal- ities is an 84-square-mile area to consist of the site of the new Toronto internat- ional airport-and the North Pickering Community lands now being assembled by the province. This area consists of portions of Uxbridge Township, of the Borough of Scarborough and of the Town of Markham, a small seg- ment of the Town of Whit- church-Stourffville, and much of eastern Pickering Township. The proposal says that all land directly associated with the airport is included within one jurisdiction so as to avoid administrative pro- blems. Prince Albert News The church was filled Sunday afternoon as grand- parents, parents, and friends came to see the children perform their Sunday School Pageant. Lots of lovely Christmas music, recitat- ions, a piano duet, the manger scene, and wishes of Merry Christmas were en- joyed and then, of course, Santa arrived! Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Doyle and Mr. Thompson enjoyed a family dinner in Bobcaygeon with other relatives on PLUMBING - Sunday.
