x. Events caught by the camera during 1972 AUGUST 13) This twisted hunk of metal is part of a barn owned by Al Martens near Burketon. Several houses and barns were destroyed by a hurricane-twister slashing a destructive path through Darlington Township. 4 : 14) "Sam the Record Man". As a walking record shop five year old Jerry Fowler received an award participating in the children's: parade during 1972 annual regatta at Caesarea. : SEPTEMBER 15) On September 12, the majority of students staged a walkout protesting the stalemate in negotiations between the Ontario County Board of Education and secondary school teachers in the County. OCTOBER 16) Made possible by Arthur Latcham, Stouffville the great benefactor, the new Community Centre is progressing well. The structure will measure 90'-x 45' and will cost about $45,000. 17) 150 persons honoured John F. Raines in the Legion Hall following his retirement after serving the Village for 36 years. He was presented with a reclining chair and a silver tray and present were all members of Council. Recipient on behalf of the school was Mrs. Audrey Lee while Mr. Cornish looking on. 19) The local girls' ball team ended the season by winning the Lakeshore Championship for Juveniles. Cutting the ribbon was Alex Carruthers, MPP for Northumberland-Durham assisted by Ken Jackson, president of the company. 22) One fire of several during a two-week period occurred at Harrison's Holdings on Scugog Island. This home was completely gutted, but another nearby house was saved by the firemen. 23) Mrs. G. Smith, member of the Hospital Auxiliary presented a cheque in the amount of $1,000. to hospital administrator James Van Camp. Looking on is Mrs. Eleanor Davidson, president of the Auxiliary. The money is for additional~hospital equipment. RATIONED I dg SR DECEMBER 24) A $30,000 mortgage paid off in two years rather than the intended four was burned at the Legion Hall. Taking part in the ceremony were from left Michael Hlozan, president; John Maw, District Commander; Alex Walker, Zone Commander; Jack Cook, Past President; and Ed Mulholland, Treasurer.
