eR SAIN TAVERN WAC ¥ 18 -- Thursday, Jan. 4th, 1973 PORT PERRY STAR - Tykes have busy Xmas season Mersco Tykes in their Airst exhibition game of the sea- son were defeated 5 to 3 by a selection of Novice House League Players. Scoring for Mersco were Storry with 2 and Horton with a single. On December 26th, they travelled to Uxbridge and after being down 4 to 1 they rallied in the third period to. carn a 4 to 4 tie with the Uxbridge type all star team. Scoring for Mersco were Bower and Storry with 2 goals and one assist each. R. Jones and Blayone picking up one assist each. On Decmber 29th, Mersco defeated Oshawa Flyers Lit- tle N.H.L.. Tyke team 1 to 0 with the lone goal being credited to Storry. R. Jones was robbed of a goal that appeared to be in but caromed off the post. Also playing a strong game on defense were Fewer, Horton and Blayone. Christie and Bronson split the goal tend- ing to earn the shutout. Horton scored a pair and Story getting the other. Wed., Dec. 27, Emiels and Kinsmen battled toa 1 - 1 tie. Blayone scored for Emiels and Car- nahan 'scored for Kinsmen. The opposition will be a team made up from members of the Port Perry Kinsmen Club. This game deserves a full house. Schools participating were Windsor Brennan, Windsor Kennedy, Windsor Herman, Windsor Riverside, Sault Ste. Marie Korah, Sarnia Northern, Oakwood Toronto and Port Perry. Port had dozens of chances to win the game but did not capitalize on any of them by opportunities. Port did not rebound well. The play- The Rock-ets start season successfully The Girls Hockey Team played against Whitby and won 4 - 0. The opening goal was scored by Laurie Barter from Terry Franssen and Marilynn Stephens. The next goal was scored by Carol Bond, assisted by Chris Vokins and Laurie Barter. Sandy Cochrane scored two goals, one unassisted and one from Laurie Barter. Susan Bond played an excel- lent game in goal as she came up with a shut-out. The Rock-kets had an 8 - 1 win against . Woodville last Sunday. Carol Bond got a * hat-trick and also scoring were. Linda Hoskin, Sandy Cochrane, Marilynn Stephens, Joanne Wilson and Susie Falis. The girls played a tough game Tuesday but were defeated by the Little Britain Jet-Sets 2 - 1. Port Perry's only goal was scored by Jerry Franssen. erratic at best. Top scorers were Laurie Williams with 12, Steve Brain 9, Jim Zoet 10. Second game -- Port Perry - vs. Sarnia Northern. This was a must game for Port Perry in order to stay in the tournament. A strong team defensive effort led to Ports 42 - 35 win. Top rebounder for Port Perry was Jim Zoet. Jim also blocked 15 shots. Scorers on the game were Steve Brain 8, Laurie Williams 11, Jim Zoet 13. Consolation Championship Game -- Port Perry vs. Brennan. Port Perry gained some measure of satisfaction in this game by defeating Windsor, Brennan 51 - 48. Port Perry had lost to this team in the all Ontario's last year in London. This was an exciting game with Port Perry losing by 7 pts. at the half. Roland Skinners fine play making led the Port Perry come back. Jim Zoets 31 points led all scorers as he was set up by his team mates in good fashion in the last half. The Port Perry team seemed to be coming on stronger as the tournament progressed and are now showing signs of being a serious threat for the All Ontario's which will be held in March. 3 Bolton Carpentry 7 - 4. Morris and Ashmore both with a pair with Kroonen- berg, Canning and Clarke getting singles scored for Frank. For Bolton Carpentry. it was Kane, Hunter, Nesbit and Alexander. Flamingo defeated Stone Real Estate 4 - 3. Fellows scored two for Flamingo with Freeman and Gibson getting singles. Percy scored two for Stone with Watts getting a single.
