Mrs. John Hamilton re- turned last week from a trip to England where she visited relatives and attended to some family business. The Women's Institute card party was held on Tuesday evening with the following winners - Ladies high Lorna Richards, Second Dorothy McDiarmid, Lucky draw Olga Hill. Men's high Bert Gibson, Second Harold Manns, Lucky Draw Ruth Wilson. Mrs. Harold Martyn spent an enjoyable week in Florida as guest of Harold's sister. The night for the High ' School Library changes this week from Wednesday to Thursday night 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is just 50 cents per year. The bride is the former Linda Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of Port Perry. The reception was held in Conway Gardens and afterward a dance was held in Scugog Hall where Bob Swain acted as disk 'jockey. On January 12 a bridal shower was held at the home of Mrs. Merlin Suggitt with Mrs. Rick Thompson acting as co-hostess in honour of Linda Brown, bride-to-be of Ray Suggitt. On Thursday the annual meeting of the A.C.W. and the Thursday Guild was held in the Parish Hall. The meeting which took the form of a sumptuous Pot Luck supper began at 6:30. Velva Bailey conducted the Devo- tion which consisted of Hymns, scripture and pra- yers. She had a timely meditation on Thoughts for The New Year. The President Mrs. John Hamilton welcomed the 25 ladies present and brought greetings from Mrs. Nichol- son whom she had visited in England recently. Various reports of the year were given. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs. Betty Staniland for her many years service as treasurer. New business included plans to purchase new choir gowns and the acceptance to hold the Garden party at the Donnerals in the summer. The ladies thoroughly tho- roughly enjoyed the slides and commentary of Mrs. John Rahm of her travels to the west and local pictures. Miss Aileen VanCamp $ Saturday until 5:00 p.m. showed pictures of local weddings and anniversaries and of her interesting tra- vels. One highlight was the launching of an ocean liner by Queen Elizabeth II. Elaine Bailey also showed slides of local interest. The meeting expressed thanks to these three ladies for sharing thef- photo. graphy and making the meeting so enjoyable. So sorry that two of our older folk are in Port Perry Hospital. Much better health is wished for Mrs. Chas Smith and Mr. Leith Byers both in hospital. Mrs. W. Archer is not well but is at home. We are pleased to know that Mr. Austin Beacock has been home for some time from hospital and is slowly improving at home. There are many, many cases of various types of cold and flu, especially among the school children. It is hoped that everyone is soon on the mend. Mr. R. H. Heaslip, Milton is spending a few days with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry VanCamp. Their aunt, Mrs. Armstrong, Toronto came along too and together they all attended the 50th wedding anniversary of their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. An- drew Nichols at Little Bri- tain United Church on Satur- day. Mrs. Armstrong re- mained in Lindsay where she is visiting other relatives. The Candace Unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of ' Dorothy Marlow with 14 ladies and 2 children pre- sent. The new unit leader, Alma Duff opened the pro- gramme with a poem enti- tled, "Watch the Corners'. Norma VanCamp took the programme with India as her subject. Many points of interest were brought out enlightening our information on India. She ended her programme with Kim's game using the New Year as her theme. A business period fol- lowed. World's Day of Prayer is to be held on March 2. Alma Duff closed the meeting with a bene- diction. After a delicious dessert luncheon at the home of Alma Taylor the meeting of the afternoon unit of the U.C.W. was opened by the leader, Florence Larmer reading a poem, "A new Year's Wish" followed by the hymn, "Lord Bless our Group Today" Margaret VanCamp who led in Bible Study remarked that few people know many Bible verses with the many new versions making it more difficult. She continued with the thought 'Where our life is leading us" ending with the offering and benediction. A new member Jean Ferguson was welcomed. Membership fees were paid by the 16 members present. A committee had been appointed of Jean Mahaffy, Jean Adams and Edith Mec- Laughtlin to cater to the Shorthorn Bariquet in April. The Milk Producers' Ban- quet in March was dis- cussed. Combined unit and general meeting will be held in February at 9:30 a.m. in C.E. room. The 1973 meeting were planned. For programme Audrey Wright gave a resume of activities which had taken place in Cambridge Street United Church, Lindsay. A contest plahned by Jean Adams was played.
