There are 174 members including 26 life members. Most units held monthly meetings and shared in devotions at General meet- ings. The guest speaker at the March general meeting was Miss Ruby Wilson, who gave a most interesting account of her many years spent as a missionary inNigeria. At the June meeting, the guest speaker was Constable Laas of the O.P.P., who spoke and showed films on Water Safety. The program at the Sept- ember meeting consisted of a travelogue given by George and Alpha Samells on their trip to South America. ' The Christmas meeting was in charge of Unit 6 who had prepared a most im- pressive worship service. The autumn thank-offering was held in October, in the form of a dessert luncheon, with Dr. Harriet Christie guest speaker. During the year, besides reaching our allocation for Missionary & Service fund, donations were made to Five Oaks Christian Training Centre, the Overseas Relief 'Fund, the Friendly neigh- bors (a special offering taken in each unit.) and con- tributed $1,925.50 to the Board of Stewards. Several contributions of good used clothing were taken to Street Haven in Toronto, also a contribution to the Men's Hostel in Oshawa. Flowers and fruit were sent to people in hospitals and many hospital and home calls were made. The annual bazaar was most successful and many other money making pro- jects, such as catering etc., showed good returns, thanks to the co-operation of the members. The bus trip to Yorkdale and Yardley's proved to be a very pleasant outing. . A special thanks is due our president Miss Gladys Joblin for her good leader- ship, also, to all committee convenors and their com- mittees for helping to make the year so successful. IT'S ONLY MONEY. The Chamber of Commerce spent $245 to erect this snowfence at the lake so people could have a place to skate safe from invasion by snowmobiles. Carelessness has caused so much damage that part of the fence will have to be scrapped after Winter Carnival. C'mon you guys. Be more careful, eh. GM patents heated windshield washer idea General Motors has pa- tented a new heated wind- shield washer system for automobiles, the Canadian patent office says. The system uses heat from the engine coolant to keep wind- shield washer fluid from freezing in cold weather. In most parts of Canada a device such as this could result in considerable sav- ings on windshield washer antifreeze, the release said. A local GM spokesman said the system was ap- parently an American idea and patented in Canada for "protection." It wasn't known if it would be imple- mented. The patent was issued Aug. 15, 1972. ' The information came in a newsletter which the Patent office will be publishing from time to time on recently issued patents which are novel, imaginative, useful and sometimes amusing. & ¢ § 4 J 9 3 p N } i ) & J | | ® J
