7 Ep We learned to-day of the passing of Mr. Clarence Heard formerly of Uxbridge who died at his home in Port. Perry, Sunday morning. Our sympathy to friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. A. Watson were quite taken by surprise when they received a pre- sentation Bible and citation from the Ballantrae church Congregation for their years of faithful service. He can dance and drink all night, stand all day in the rain, hitch-hiking, sleep on the floor, ski all day on weekends and sleep all day in school. But imperceptibly, and then suddenly, the youth is middleaged. The luxuriant hair falls out, the belly thickens, the pace slows, and the joints begin to ache. The energy has been burned up, much of it uselessly, and the cupboard grows progessively bare. Is that what we're doing today in our comparatively youthful country? Are we going to wake up with no hair, arthritis, and a pot belly with nothing to put it in? And while this is taking place before our eyes, the politicians chatter like parrots, jockeying for position, their eyes fixed irremovably on the past. I've no solution. The only thing I might suggest, in view of the energy crisis, is that all the politicians in North America be laid end to end. They'd make an admirable pipe-line, of just the right girth. And they'd produce enough natural gas in one session to stave off the crisis for years. HIT Services PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rev. William Black, F.R.G.S. A rather tardy press secretary would like to make special mention of the Dec- ember U.C.W. meeting, which showed much pre- paration on the part of the planning group. A Christmas pageant of costumes of other countries was presented by the Dec- ember group who told of Christmas traditiong® and celebrations aroun the world. January 87 - At an organizational meet- ing of the U.C.W. executive on January 8, 1973, at the home of Mrs. Hugh Baird, it was decided that the execu- tive plan the January meet- ing, with written invitations sent to all newcomers of the area, and phone calls to present U.C.W. members. Nominations to fill the various committees, were made by the executive, subject to change if nec- essary. The monthly groups were to be arranged at a later date. Much discussion showed a deep concern by the execu- tive to create greater in- terest and involvement of non-members in U.C.W. act- ivities, and community affairs. .
