The Executive Committee, was given a tour of the modern facilities of the obstetrical department. Followingthis, a discussion concerning the operation of the department and the hospital was pre- sented. Correspondence from individuals and groups con- cerning this amalgamation was discussed. The Exe- cutive Committee, attending this meeting to find out the significant facts of this community's obstetrical health service, will make recommendations to the gen- eral membership meeting of the Council on February 14th. A brief outlining Com- munity Memorial Hospital's reasons for continuation of thisunitwillalsobe presented at this meeting. The results of this meeting will be for- warded to the Ministry of Health. Prior to this meeting, a gathering of approximately 100 mothers, fathers and infants were present at the front door of the hospital. These concerned residents disbanded when they were toldby the Administrator that the Executive Committee had arrived and the meeting was about to commence. The sincere and courteous con- cern expressed by these citizens was a positive reflec- tion on the community. Port to hire men Port - Perry council will have tohire unemployed men and, in effect, act as its own contractor in order to meet the terms of its $16,000 dollar Local Initiatives Program grant. No onemay be hired to - work on LIP project unless he is registered with Canada Manpower .as unemployed. The grant from the federal government will cover la- bour costs on a 40 thousand dollar wash and change room building at the waterfront. The village will apply for a 50 percent subsidy from the ( provincial government on the projects 24 thousand dollar capital cost. Council expressed, some concern that Manpower may not be able to supply enough men who are skilled at laying blocks and handling other work involved in construct- ing the building. If unem- ployed construction workers can not be found in the Oshawa-Port Perry area the employment office may have * to try and attract men from other centres. Scugog Lumber is laying a foundation for the structure. association which will serve Cartwright, Reach, Scugog and Port Perry. * The group settled on three issues that people in atten- dance thought to be the most pressing at the moment. 1. Stop sign at Queen and Lilla Streets in Port Perry. A motion was passed unani- mously opposing the counties proposal to place a stop sign there. Letters will be sent to the four local councils, to Ontario County council and to the provincial government. Cartwright is part of Durham-Northumberland at! to oppose the stop sign when itis voted on. 2. The association is in favour ofkeeping the obste- trical wing of Port Perry Hospital open and will co- operate with the hospital board to press for it. 3. The association is unable to formulate a postion re- garding regionalization be- cause no one has any idea what regionalization is. The executive will seek more information. An executive for the resi- dents and ratepayers asso- ciation was elected; Paul Roland Coy and Don Carru- thers, Reach - Stan Glass and Len Taylor, Scugog - Taylor and Charles Foote," Port Perry - Bill Brock and Jerry Jackman. Directors will be responsi- ble for making sure that someone from each' area attends every meeting of the four local councils and reports back to monthly general meetings on the councils performance. The association meets next month on Thursday, March 8, 8 p.m. at the Reach Munici- pal Hall in Manchester. has begun the necessary procedure to rezone land on Bigelow St. so that a senior citizens residence can be built. The Procedure re- quires that letters be cir- culated to all property own- ers within 400 feet of the site. That has been done. If there are no objectons- within 14 daysithe rezoning application will probably go through the Ontario Municipal Board with no trouble and the home will be built.
