Dinner meetings were now held at Little Norway. A local man Elgin Hutchinson was the lucky winner of a DeSoto car which netted the hospital fund nearly $2,000. In January a Minstrel Show with a 13 piece Dixie Land Band was held in the new public school auditorium. Honours came to the club when Arthur Brunton was elected District Deputy Governor for A-3, in Cobourg. SEPTEMBER 1957 - JUNE 1958 At a March meeting Port Perry Lions Club honoured H.G. Hutchinson with a life membership on the occasion of his 86th birthday. He was a charter member of the club. Presentation was made by Tom Harris, president for the term. SEPTEMBER 1958 - JUNE 1959 On June 10th, the club celebrated the 20th anniversary. Present for the occasion was Deputy-District Governor Arthur Brunton who installed the officers for the year and initiated eight new members. Dr. M.B. Dymond presented Mr. Brunton with a plaque on behalf of the club. President for the year was Howard Challis. During the year the club hosted a Public Speaking Contest for-High School students in Zone 10. SEPTEMBER 1959 - JUNE 1960 Archie Farmer was elected president for the year and in addition to the regular annual events held during the year was a Spring Ball in the High School on April 23. Quite a few of the members were attending the Convention in Ottawa on May 29. SEPTEMBER 1960 - JUNE 1961 Elected president for the term was local dentist, Dr. Robert McNab. An Umbrella Draw netted the Lions Club $200, and the lucky winner was Donna Samells. SEPTEMBER 1961 - JUNE 1962 Officers were installed at the last dinner meeting in June, 1961 and elected Frank Honey president. At the first meeting in January, Roy Cornish, the only charter member still remaining reminisced about the 24 years the club had been in operation. Thanking Mr. Cornish was Sam Griffen who missed being a charter member by only one meeting. SEPTEMBER 1962 - JUNE 1963 Ray Cook was elected president and was to preside over a very important function in May, 1963 namely the club's 25th anni- versary. And who was the guest speaker. None other than the very same person who will perform the same duty on the 35th anniversary occasion on March 3, namely Tris Coffin, First Vice President of Lions International. 10 years ago Mr. Coffin was a director of Lions International and had already made a name for himself nationally and inter- nationally. Among the 160 members and guests were many prominent Lions from various clubs. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Starr, M.P., The Hon. Dr. M. B. Dymond, and Mrs. Dymond, Deputy Reeve Robert Kenny and Mrs. Kenny and many others. SEPTEMBER 1963 - JUNE 1964 District Governor Ross Oliphant was on an official visit to the club in September and installed the new executive headed by Glenn Van Camp. In a Lions Club Bonspiel held in January, a rink skipped by Roy Cornish won top honours. Other members on the team were Ted Griffen, Robert McNab, and Joe Draper. In February, the local Lions sponsored the March of Dimes campaign. A number of members attended the Lions International Convention in Toronto in June. A wheelchair was purchased for the use of children and adults. SEPTEMBER 1964 - JUNE 1965 Storey Beare was elected president for the year. Of the most important events was a dinner held in honour of a ball team sponsored by the club. A trophy was presented to the team by the president. For the second consecutive year, the March of Dimes campaign was sponsored by the Port Perry Lions. The club shared in the honours bestowed on a member J. J. Gibson when he was elected Warden of Ontario County. SEPTEMBER 1965 - JUNE 1966 Installation of the new executive was held in May 1965 and conducted by District DEPUTY DISTRICT A happy group of Storey Beare supporters when he was elected district Deputy, Governor in Cobourg in April, 1968. About 20 of the club and wives joined in the exciting event. Governor H. Tamblyn with Gordon Goode as president. SEPTEMBER 1966 - JUNE 1967 Gordon Thomas was elected president of the club. Seven new members were installed by District Governor H. Tamblyn bringing the total to an all time high of over 50 SEPTEMBER 1967 - JUNE 1968 The executive was installed in May with Robert Kenny as president. District Governor H. Tamblyn conducted the installation. Honours came to the club that year when Storey Beare was elected Zone Chairman for District A-3 S10 for the year September 1968 - June 1969. The club received a plaque from Lions International for gaining 12 additional members during 1966 - 67. Gord Thomas, president of that year accepted the plaque. Roy Cornish received a Charter Monarch Certificate and Sam Griffen an Old Monarch Certificate for 30 year membership in the club. Storey Beare in the capacity of Zone Chairman paid the club an official visit in January. 16 rinks from various clubs in the Zone competed in the annual Lions Club Bonspiel and the local rink of Bob Kenny, Art Panabaker, Bob Carnegie and Gord Prentice won the Spiel. The club donated the first $1,000 instalment of a $5,000. pledge to the hospital. In March the club entertained pair skaters Anna Forder and Richard Stephens follo- wing their return from the Olympics in Grenoble, France. Storey Beare was elected Deputy-District Governor for District A-3 in Cobourg in April, 1968. About 20 Lions and wives turned out for the exciting event. However, the biggest event of the year was to be the celebration of the club's 30th anniversary. Lions from neighbouring clubs and friends to a total of 150 enjoyed a fine speech by Past International Director George Laughlin. SEPTEMBER 1968 - JUNE 1969 In September Gordon Prentice took over the president's chair, and in November he had the pleasure of presenting the second $1,000 instalment on a $5,000 pledge to the hospital board chairman, Harry Phoenix. A beautiful stereo set was presented to the Senior Citizens.
