From now on owners of dogs picked up in the township will have to pay half the cost of the dog catchers fee (about $15.) in order to get the pet back, council decreed. The fee was tacked on at the insistence of Deputy- Reeve Armour McMillan who pointed out that council could sit and pass all the motions and by-laws it wanted about dogs, but until there was some penalty for violations it was just a waste of time. "Innocent people are paying taxes to care for other people's dogs, "the deputy-Reeve complained. "Dog owners should not expect taxpayers who don't have dogs to keep paying for them," he said.
