The first meeting of the evening unit of the U.C.W. was held on Monday, March 5 at the home of Donna Kyte with 23 members present. Donna Kyte conducted a short: business period fol- lowed by the excellent devotional led by Margaret Kempt. Our guest for the evening was Kirsten Grum- lose. She capably demon- strated a full course Danish meal and also told us some interesting facts about her native home. Everyone then sampled the delicious Danish food for lunch. The next meeting will change from the regular: date to Wed., March 28 in order to attend a special programme of the Port Perry ACW.at the Port Perry Parish Hall on the dangers of accidental poisoning. We will return to the home of Lois Veldman for our business, devotional and lunch. ONO. Meeting The meeting for March was held at the home of Diane Tobin with 26 mem- bers and 1 visitor present. After the reading of the minutes, a lengthy corres- . pondence was dealt with. Jean Goble gave the Treas- urer's report which accoun- ted a healthy balance. Roll Call was answered with a tea towel for the kitchen in the Recreation Centre and a member of girls had to reach into the Blue Box for forgetting theirs. Some of their penal- ties were very humourous. Cathy Corden was presented with a gift from the girls, a lovely picture and replied with a thank you. After a game by Diane Tobin, lunch was served and the meeting closed. At the weekly Tuesday evening card party, this week the work of the Senior Citizens, 15 tables were played and when the dust settled, the following were declared winners: Ladies' High Alma Taylor, Second Lorenza Bright; Third Mrs. Mabel Graham. Men's High Aylmer Ploughman, Second Everett Watson, Third Gor- don Sweetman. Sincere congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Stan Rahm - they became grandparents of twins last week when Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rahm received two little bundles of joy - a boy and a girl. Baby boys arrived recently at the homes of the Brian Stanilands and the Jack Greens. Congratulat- ions to all. Mrs. Alma Fowler visited recently with Mrs. Annie Fowler at Courtice recently. Quite a number from Blackstock attended the Celebration of Joy in the Port Perry United Church on Sunday evening. This happy evening co-sponsored by Scugog, Port Pery, Colum- bus and Blackstock United Churches pointed out that the Christian Gospel was meant "to be joyful rather than the solemn way it is so often presented. The Crest Bonspiel at Port Perry Curling Rink attrac- ted quite a number of the curlers from Blackstock on Saturday. All report having a wonderful time. Monday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin, Janis and Kelly were Rev. and Mrs. Philip Romeril and Dennis, Mr. Gordon Paisley, Craig and Cathy. Mrs. Chaplin of Oshawa celebrated her 80th birthday at the home of her daughter Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asselstine and. family on Sunday. Also attending the family gathering were Mr. and Mrs. Al Asselstine, Tania and Michael, Hailey- bury, and Mr. and Mrs. Les Asselstine, Gayle and Rob- bie of Waterloo. , Mr. Peter Hopps of Peterborough was a Satur- day caller of Mr. and Mrs. Harold - McLaughlin and family. A mid-week guest of the McLaughlin's was Mrs. Earl Trewin of Enniskillen. A good crowd attended the presentation to Mr. and Mrs. David Wotten held inthe Recreation Centre on Sat- urday evening. Harvey Graham fulfilled the duties of MC. in his usual fine manner for the following programme - Reading - Elaine*Bailey, Piano Solo - Anna Robertson, Reading - Helen Bradburn; Solo - Eileen McLaughlin, Reading - Juine Degeer, Piano solo - Linday Kyte. Miss Heather Dorrell was home for the weekend from Western University, London. Those interested can attend the clinic on any one of three dates, March 17, 25 and 31 at 10 a.m. in the College Lecture Theatre. First, Durham instructors will explain the income tax form step by step in the lecture hall through the use of charts on a large screen. Then 'they will answer questions to help partici- pants understand the re- quired forms and schedules, in smaller group sessions held in classrooms following the lecture hall presentation. The College emphasizes that its instructors will not fill out anyone's income tax form. This is a seminar to help people understand the new forms and then they fill them out on their own. Mr. Ron Buffet, Co-ordin- ator emphasizes that those interested in attending the clinic should be in at- tendance promptly at 10a.m. so that they will get a complete presentation on the new tax forms.
