rs ex ali ESS Zo Ae fe Sao NE Xo EN Te. 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, March 14,1973 Senior Citizens home approved Port Perry council has given plans to construct a senior citizens home in Port Perry its final blessing and sent them onto Queens Park for final approval. At the regular meeting of village council March 6 clerk-treasurer Neil Brodie reported that the 40 day objection period has passed and that he has received no objections. Mr. Brodie said he mailed notices to the owners of all properties near the site of the proposed home. In addition a report on the objection period appeared as a new item in the STAR. Councillor Reg Rose ex- pressed the opinion that, "The fact it is a senior citizens home has gained public approval." The two storey home will be constructed at the corner of Kellet and Bigelow Streets, and will cost about $293,000. It will be built by Cean Investments Ltd. for Ontario Housing Corporation. The 30 unit senior citizens home will feature common rooms, a shuffleboard court and recessed balconies or patios for every unit. In giving the home final approval council moved that in its opinion the building conforms to the existing area and will conform to other proposals submitted for the area in that it is a low density, one bedroom per unit structure with fewer people in each unit than might be normal in a family building. The motion requested the Ontario Municipal Board to approve a previously sub- mitted by law allowing construction of the building so an early start could be made on, "this much needed home for senior citizens which will indeed be an asset to the village."
