Huge -crowd attends Cartwright Open House On Friday evening a huge crowd attended the Cart- wright High School Night School Open House which was held in the Blackstock Recreation Centre. There were excellent displays of work done in the classes of Upholstery and Wood Refin- ishing taught 'by Austin Bartley, Caneing by Eileen McLaughlin, Four Sewing Classes by Hilda Mappin and a great variety of Arts and Crafts by Miriam Price. Students of Cartwright High School were busy selling tickets at a penny sale, at a bake table and selling refreshments. .\Mr. Gordon Paisley, Principal of C.H.S. welcomed the fine crowd and offered his congratulations on the excellent samples of work done by the Night Classes. He called on Mr. Arthur Rowan, Chairman of the Board of Education, who is our representative to the Board who offered his words of congratulations and encouragement. Mr. Paisley then introduced Mrs. Hilda Mappin, Sewing Class teacher who acted as commentator for the Fash- ion Show when some of the sewing class students and their children modelled some of their sewing accomplishments. The drawing of the tickets on the many articles in the Penny sale concluded the interest- ing evening. Mrs. Hilliard Stiner of Claremont, and Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Watson of Port Perry were recent Nursing Home News This week Mr. John Kelly the Nursing Home News writer has been away in Toronto Wellesley Hospital. We wish him well and hope he will be back soon. There was no service this week. Thursday evening was the regular Bingo night with 8 prize winners; M. Letcher, W. Noroz, M. Phoenix, J. Preston, Wm. Smith, A. Balgue, H. Snowden, M. Gerrick. We wish to express our thanks to the volunteers Mrs. DeYonge and Mrs. Peters who come so regu- larly and who are respon- sible for the prizes. The residents of the home have nominated a committee namely Shaw Hamilton, John Preston, Mrs. Letcher and Walter Chidley. They meet once a month. Their aim is to develop a more active participation of the residents in the programs and activities of the home, and to keep each other informed about new changes which come about with the government's regulations which affect the residents. One is the supper hour has been changed to 5:30 p.m. to comply with the regulations. On the weekend several of the residents were busy making Easter Decorations. It was an enjoyable time for those involved making baby chicks and bunnies. Quite a few of the residents have been ill with colds the past few weeks. We are all looking forward to warm weather and sunny days. Mrs. Carrier returned to Uxbridge Hospital last week. Mr. Glen Hood and Mr. Edgar Butt were home for the weekend.
