Softball Assoc. looking for workers The Port Perry Minor Softball Assoc. held it's first meeting of the 1973 season on Sunday and only 12 softball men were present. The registration will be held next weekend to see how many boys are interested and then coaches will certainly be needed. The Peewee's will be handled by Don Hurst, who will provide a good season for these young players. They have entered the Woodstock Tour- ament on June 16, after an absence of 4 years. On April 13th at the farm of Mr. Bob Flett, R. R. No. 2, Oshawa, the second meeting was held. Bob Stone, presi- dent, opened the meeting with roll call and minutes from the last meeting being read by Elaine Elliot, secretary. : The meeting was then turned over to leaders Keith Phoenix and John Leask. We judged four cows on Dairy character, legs, udder and body capacity. Keith then explained what to look for and how to apply it when judging cows. Rick Jefferson, our assis- tant Agr. Rep., explained the alloting of points, totaling 1,000. He then talked to the junior members about 4-H. Meanwhile the senior mem- bers listened to Mr. Flett as he gave a detailed rundown on herd breeding and management. It was decided to have the next meting May 10th at William Stone's, R. R. No. 5, Sunderland. Vice-president, Jim Phoenix then thanked Mr. Flett for an enjoyable and informative evening. Bob Stone closed the meeting with 4H pledge.
