Such children cannot cope with the programmes in a regular school but develop both intellectionally and socially through the various levels of instruction offered at Glen- holme. The Ontario County Board of Education provides the supervision and administra- tion of all aspects of teh school and its programme. The facilities include nine classrooms, a gym, a library, an arts and crafts room and a 'daily living skills' centre. The schools curriculum is designed not only to teach the children academic skills but also to better equip the children with everyday social skills. Visitors are encouraged to come into the school with the hope that through this public education programme peo- ple will become more aware of the retarded and their needs and capabilities and will be even more accepting of the children in their home community. After the provincial gov- ernment finalizes the design for the region in mid - May, legislation will be introduced into the Legislature early in June to be passed by the end of the month. There will be No delay in establishing regional gov- ernment for this area, says Newman. The people east of Metro are geared up for regional government, he says. "If we don't go ahead with it now," says the MPP, "we'd better forget it until we can find another kind of region." Newman suggests the government may accede to requests to include three northern Ontario County Townships - Brock, Thorah and Scott. But he won't speculate on the fate of the A.
