<€, & On Saturday, March 10th, 1973, Joanne Marie Mid- dleton and John Glen Milton Howsam were united in marriage during a candle- light service in the Port Perry United Church. Reverend Reeves offici- ated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Middleton, R.R. 2, Port Perry, and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claire Howsam of Port Perry. The bride given in mar- riage by her father, wore a floor length gown of white crisp, nylon organza, trimmed with old-fashioned garlands of lace. The match- ing head piece added the crowning touch to the chapel length veil. She carried a bouquet of light pink sweet- heart roses and white carnations with baby's breath of white. Mrs. Janis Jeffrey, friend of the bride was matron of i honour in a floor length mauve voile gown with matching green and mauve embroided trim. Misses Terri and Donna Middleton sisters of the bride wore identical - floor length light pink voile gowns their flowers were light pink roses and dark pink carnations. Miss Mary Trull was flower girl in white swiss dotted floor length gown, and Master Larry Tummonds was ring bearer in a Black Tuxedo. Previous to her marriage the bride was given several showers. The first was hosted by Mrs. Janis Jeffrey at the home of her mother Mrs. J. Carriere who was the co-hostess. A miscellaneous shower was held at the home of Mrs. M. Heard in Prince Albert co-hosted by Mrs. A. Bond aunts of the bride. Joanne also had a mis- cellaneous shower at the home of the grooms mother, hosted by Mrs. F. Trull and Mrs. G. Tummonds, aunts of the groom. The girls at the Toronto Dominion Bank Toronto, where Joanne was employed had a presentation party previous to her leaving for employment in Ajax. Northumberland and Dur- ham Board of Education has recommended . that the building be listed through the real estate board. At its April 26 meeting the board re- ceived the following report and recommendation. The Burketon School has been closed and boarded up since June, 1972. [tis not required for school purposes and will deterio- rate if left unused. It is a two room -brick building constructed in 1962. There are no debentures outstanding. The only in- quiry has been to rent it as a Sunday School. It is recommended that a value be established through appraisals and that the property be put up for sale through the multiple listing service of the local Real Estate Board. Provincial Grants increased for local municipalities In a recent press release M.P.P. for this area, M.B. Dymond, points out that the. new provincial budget pro- vides for an additional $68,000 worth of grants to three of the municipalities in our area. The provincial grant to Port Perry will be increased by $56,000, to Scugog by $3,000 and to Reach by $9,000. The extra grants are made possible by a 2 percent increase in sales tax which came into effect Tuesday. "I am very pleased that municipalities in this riding (Ontario) will receive sub- stantial extra funds this ~ year," the M.P.P. said in his release. "The money is intended to hold down property taxes' he added.
