SSS a a. (continucd barrel too Was on the back porch in view. Some surg got.their fill of cider and plent left the tap running until the barrel was empty. Jimmy Frise who was there that day put a cartoon in the Star Weekly that had lots to say, with a preacher sitting at a tea-table on the lawn so solemn and neat With a barrel of cider at to hus feet, some folk speak of those days yet and guess they will never forget, Ladies Aid has gone out to stay as that was in a good old day. This incident really hap- pened on the Redman lawns in 1924, many garden parties followed but they made sure a barrel of cider wasn't left around. Following these good nat- ured poems we were fav- oured with another musical number by Florence and Joan in "A Song of Peace." Helen Redman called on the eight U.C.W. presidents to light in order of their service, the pink candles in a beautiful brass candle- abrum. This honour was accorded to Dorothy Martyn, Betty Reader, Myrtle Manns Clara Dowson, Marie Clark, Réta Wilson, Reta Reader, Beryl Gerrow. Mrs. Marie Clark read excerpts from letters re- ceived from people unable to attend. The meeting closed with the singing of 'Onward Christian People." Many moved to the tea-room for a social period while others delayed this pleasure to see the slides shown by Reta Reader. They were a collection of Island scenes or activities involving Island peoplé from 1958. In the tea-room Mrs. Ethel Redman and Mrs. Ada Pearson poured tea and coffee at a side table which displayed a beautiful anni- versary cake and silver candles. The setting was enhanced by 2 beautiful table centres generously donated by Mrs. Eleanor Woods. Fancy and plain sandwiches with relishes satisfied the hunger urge. A social time was then spent in listening to the music of Mr. Ivan Allin of Columbus, Cards, Bingo and dancing with the Scugog Island Orchestra. The dance which caused most amuse- ment was. when the 8 presidents (several of whom were inexperienced) tried to go through a square dance. Many prizes and draws were offered through the evening.
