The 'areas affected all of the Cities of Hamilton and Oshawa, and the Counties of Halton, © Peel, and Went- worth and most of the Counties of Ontario and Durham. Mr. Grossman said 'We are making the enumera- tion during the two weeks starting June 18 while most residents are at home be- fore the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer vacation period. "The information gathe- red will enable us to re- spond quickly with prelim- inary voters' lists for the councils contemplated by new legislation once the Ontario Legislature has de- cided on the exact form and boundaries of the proposed restructured focal govern- ments;"' he said. In addition, the informa- tion collected will be used for the direction of educa- tion property taxes between the public and separate school systems, the prepa- ration of jurors' lists, an up-to-date population count, and the more equitable dis- tribution of Provincial grants to local governments to help reduce municipal tax bills." Any person who is 18 years old or over, a Cana- dian citizen or British sub- ject, and a resident of the municipality at the time of enumeration will be eligible to vote for his municipal council. Mr. Grossman said that an eleigible voter who moves into the area after the enumeration, but before elections are held, can have his name added to the voters' list by contacting the municipal clerk. The same would apply to a resi- dent who comes of voting age during this period. "The province is responsible for providing the municipalities with a preliminary list of eligible electors and the municipal clerks will inform local resident of the time periods and procedures for making corrections, revis- ions and additions to the list," the Minister ex- plained. The enumerators will ask respondents to provide the names, ages, property sta- tus, school support and res- idency of all members of the household. In most cases, this will simply in- volve checking the existing enumeration notice which the enumerators will" have with them when they visit households. from General Motors Cedar Creek News Martin den Boer is on a six week tour of Europe.
