Chief Crouch is pictured above showing Chief Jack Cook of the local fire department (on the right) how the 100 foot ladder operates. Chief Crouch said that the ladder is available for Mutual Aid calls and if Port Perry is ever in need, of this new truck, it would be on its way with a phone call. News from Seagrave Now we know for sure that summer has come. One of our oldest annual visi- tors, Mrs. Cora Moose (92) of Toronto paid a visit to the Keen home and saw the fine job Bill and Ila have made of their new home and lawns. She was accompan- ied by Mr. and Mrs. Art Brown also of Toronto. The Keens had called on Mrs. Moase in Toronto only a few days earlier. Surely the Wanamakers have finished up that wed- ding business now for a few years. The two local Wan- amker families, Mr. and Mrs. John Williamson and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fisher were guests from this community at the Knowles - Wanamaker wedding in Port Perry United Church on Saturday. We would be hard pressed to name the many ex-citizens who were present as the families in- volved have Seagrave backgrounds. Mrs. Third entertained three lady friends for the holiday weekend. They were Mrs. Gertie Ham and Mrs. Hazel Cowie of Markham and Mrs. Della Spring of Richvale. The four of them made good use of their time. On Saturday, they called on Mr. and Mrs. Wilf Creighton of - Manilla. On Sunday they attended church and in the evening had supper with Mr. and Mrs. H. Berry of Canning- ton, then on Monday they travelled to Janetville to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bert "Third. Mr. and Mrs. Belair spent the weekend camping at Lakefield with the big-wigs of Oshawa Excavating. The Chas. Short family got a small taste of camp- ing too when on Sunday they visited Mr. and Mrs. Walt Fishley and family at their camp at Balsam Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hunter spent Sunday in a somewhat more civilized manner as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hunter at their cottage on Cameron Lake. The Carr family were on the move too. After enter- taining grandfather Carr for Sunday dinner, they took off for Orillia where they visi- ted Mr. and Mrs. Barry Nicholls, (Connie Carr stayed with her Aunt in Orillia for some holidays. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Venner were Miss Miriam Chant of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Werry of Enniskillen. Also from Enniskillen on Sunday came Mr. and Mrs. Adam Sharp to visit the Bert Wanamakers. Other callers there were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sweetman of Oshawa. On Monday Mr. and Mrs. B.L. went to visit the Ron" Wanamakers in Oshawa. with a wedding on Saturday too -- some week. This week's congratula- tions. go to Bonnie Short who passed her grade 7 piano examination recently. Hospital news is good this week. Both Mrs. Gladys Short and Mrs. Marjorie Moon are back at home. More local people have taken off for holidays in the east, west, north and south so attendance at church was only fair. The session led by Clifford Short conducted the service. Other elders involved were Mrs. Boe, Mrs. Clements and Bruce Carr who sang a solo. Bruce's father Mr. Ganton Carr of Eden came to the rescue again and gave an address on 'The Life of Elijoh'. We are indeed grateful to Mr. Carr. Next Sunday's service should be a bit special. Communion will be observed as part of the worship and we will also be bidding farewell to Rev. Critch. He has announced his sermon topic as 'The Padre's Swan Song.' Be there to wish him well. No news yet of a new minister. If you aren't superstitious about voo-doo day, Friday the thirteenth, plan to attend the community shower on that night for Mr. Gord McMillan and his bride-to-be Miss Donna Taylor. Everyone is wel- come. Did anyone notice that Bethel Cemetery needed a grass-cut? According to St. John Ambulance, convulsions in babies or young children may occur at the onset of illness. The illness is not necessarily serious. The: convulsion, precipitated by a sudden rise in temperature, is usually harmless.
