The house was built by Mr. Carnegie's great- grandfather. Joseph Bigelow was Port Perry's first reeve. In 1850 in company with his brother, Joel, he opened a general store in Port Perry. Kour bought interest. In 1852, he was appointed first postmaster in Port Perry and he held the posi- tion for 17 years. From 1862 to 1868 he was manager of the Royal Can- adian Bank, the first bank in Port Perry and was first president of the Port Whitby and Port Perry Railroad. He was elected reeve of Port Perry, 1872-73-74 and 79. In 1877 he was appointed justice of the peace. In 1881, he was a can- didate for the legislature of the Province of Ontario and failed the election by only three votes. He married Elizabeth Paxton, daughter of William and Elizabeth Paxton, May 2, 1854. This graciously furnished home has gone from gen- eration to generation. Mr. Carnegie received the house through his grand- mother, Emma Josephine Bigelow, and has lived there for 48 years. The Carnegies have two childredn a son Capt. James H. Carnegie, a pilot with the daughter Mrs. Ken (Carol) Fralick, of Pickering. The Carnegies have re- stored the furnishings so that the beautiful midvic- torian furniture in this home shows a life style of a century ago. The large comfortable rooms show much elaborate workmanship. The wallaper alone is very similar to the wall- paper of bygone years. The valance boxes are the orig- inals that Mr. Carnegie restored. In the impressive drawing room there is only one modern piece of furniture and that is an occasional chair. A one hundred-year- old mirror hangs on the wall. The staircase is of pure walnut spindles and there are no posts. The homes on the tour were admired and the Port Perry Kinettes once again could add another success- ful project to their other accomplishments. Rev. Allan Barnes was the officiating clergyman. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Powell, Columbus and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Willoughby of Carleton Place, Ontario. Wearing a tradional nylon organza gown loud with pink ribbon and sheer round bowed neckline with a long chapel veil trimmed with organza lacing, the bride was given in marriage by her father. Mrs. Diane Lambert, sis- ter of the bride was matron Admission 50c n of honor and her brides- maids were Laurie and Julie Willoughby, sisters of the groom. Garry Powell, brother of the bride was the best man and the ushers were Brent Whitelegg of Whitby and Alvin Lambert, brother in law of the bride. After the reception at the brides home, the couple honeymooned to a cottage at Fenelon Falls. The brides wedding ring was her great grandmother. After the rehearsal the grooms family entertained. entertained. The bride was surprised with several showers prior to her marriage.
