Malcolm (Clerk-Treasurer) his reasons for saving the old town hall, said that if such buildings are preser- ved and the downtown mer- chants make an effort over the next 10 years to refinish their store fronts in a 'modern' earlyOntario style, the village centre should be able to compete with any development that comes along in the future. "My effort (to save to old town hall) is based on my feeling that the downtown business section would be kept prosperous and that Queen St. which must be one of the most charming main streets in any Ontario village should be kept that way," said Mr. Brock. "I am not against devel- opment," he said. "I am against developing indis- criminately any and all open space in the name of progress. : The fate of the town hall will be the same as the fate of the library and the bowl- ing green Mr. Brock stated. He said he expected uses would be found for the town hall in the next few years that not one now can forsee, because of the growth pre- dicted for the Scugog area.
