------ wham « Cartwright landfill site Public hearing July 24 The Ontario Ministry of the Environment will con- duct a public hearing into the proposal of Harvey R. Ambrose to develop a sani- tary land fill site for the dumping of industrial gar- bage in Cartwright. The hearing will be held in the Cartwright Township Hall at Blackstock on Tuesday, July 24 at 10 a.m. It is recommended that anyone wishing to speak at the hearing be prepared to submit their remarks in writing. The landfill site is pro- posed for a portion of Mr. Ambrose farm which used to be a sand pit. Situated right in the middle of an .unopened part of the first concession of Cartwright it is just a few yards from the C.P.R. railway line. The used up sand pit takes up land on both sides of the unopened road allow- ance. Mr. Ambrose owns lots 2 and 3 on Cartwright's first conession and lots 31 and 32 of the tenth conces- sion, .Darlington. A report from Hydrology Consultants Ltd. of Miss- issauga describes the site as "Rugged and remote." It is located on a piece of high ground known as Oak Ridge, which forms the surface water divide be- tween Lake Ontario and the Kawartha Lakes. If garbage is dumped there the consultant firm reports that seepage will most likely sift down through the sand about 50 feet, then sift south through more sand for about half a mile until it comes to a © small stream. Besides attending several 'meetings with Cartwright Township council to answer questions about his proposal Mr. Ambrose met with the ratepayers association on at least one occassion. Several weeks ago he expressed his views regarding sanitary land fill operations through an editorial in the Port Perry STAR. All the neighbours in the area have been notified of the july 24 hearing. Mrs. den Boer's brother and his family of Michigan, U.S.A. were visiting last weekend at the den Boer home. Bill Armstrong, Quaker Rd is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. He is re- covering from back sur- gery. Mr. and Mrs. Norris Doherty and family spent the holiday weekend with relatives at South River. Mrs. John Farrow returned with them. She is staying a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Rick Larocque to help with her new grandson, who was born in Port Perry Hospital on June 27th. Mr. Farrow came down for the weekend and attended the . Orange Men Parade. in Port Perry on Saturday, Ross MacCulloch was home from Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, for the. weekend. Mrs. Grant Beacock, Shirley road, held a baby shower at her home on Friday evening for her new nephew, the Larocque baby. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Trepanier of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque. Miss Karin Cummings of Aurora spent the weekend with - the Rick Larocque family. Mr. and Mrs. John den Boer took their relatives from Holland to Niagara Falls last week and also visited relatives at Jarvis.
