Let us hope we may be spared ocasions requiring the pre- sence of a minister for a while. Last week we continued to say farewell to Rev. Critch and his family. They were entertained by Mrs. McNeil on Wednesday and that same night the Hi-C had a special barbecue at the Morley Bruce home and surprised Mr. Critch by presenting him with an attache case. Friday the thirteenth didn't disturb our folks much for almost all the older families of the com- munity and some of the newer ones were represen- ted at the shower for Gor- don McMillan and Donna Taylor. Numerous relatives were present also. Neil Wanamaker was M.C. for the short but inter- esting program which star- ted by the whole audience joining in the songs of a musical romance with Mrs. Tobin in her usual place at the piano. Mrs. Beacock gave a suitable reading then the Barr trio turned into a duet with only Diane and one brother performing. The real fun item for the evening was a suitcase race on which 2 couples opened their baggage and raced to see which could dress in the shortest time. Bill Wana- maker as a nurse and Shirley Barr as a ball play- er won out over Lloyd Bruce and Ruby Short. The remainder of the eve- ning was spent in the usual way -- address, presenta- tion of gifts, thanks and lunch. Mrs. Reta Boe"s doings this week included a trip to Midland with Miss Janice Dowson to visit Mrs. Fleeta Sleep. Then on Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dowson she journeyed to Kingston for the weekend. They of course visited Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boe and attended some of Kingston's.300 year cele- Dbrations. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. B. Wanamaker and Mr. and Mrs. D. Bea- cock were in Prince Albert at the Les Beacock home where they helped celebrate the 25th wedding anniver- sary of Mr. and Mrs. Law- rence Devitt of Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Walter King started west during the week-end for a visit with Walter's sister there. About the same time Mr. and Mrs. Reg Abraham started on a 3 weeks trip to the east coast. Mrs. Gladys Short is spending a few days with her daughter Mrs. Hamilton in Sunderland. The Neil Wanamaker family entertained Mr. and Mrs. lan Fraser and daughter of Toronto over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Darrill of Elmvale spent most of last week visiting the Newman family and Mrs. McNeil. Mr. and Mrs. H. Eagleson from Cambridge were stay- ing with Mrs. A. Bruce and Marjorie, Port Perry, last week and managed some visits with old friends here and there. Mrs. E. made it to the shower on Friday night but her husband con- tented himself with visiting such old friends as Isaiah Irwin, Roy Scott and Walter King. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Curtis of Orillia spent Sunday afternoon visiting Mrs. Cle- ments. The Hunters spent a couple of days at the begin- ning of the week in the Bancroft area. Sharon and Brian Woods of Little Britain are holi- daying at the Bruce Carr home this week. - Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Snyder of Scugog and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Snyder from Florida visited the Keens last week and this Saturday saw Mr. and Mrs. Norman Deverall and Mr. and Mrs. "Clarence Wright of Canning- ton at the same home. On Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Venner went to Goderich where they will visit his sister and attend the funeral of Venner's aunt in Clinton on Tuesday. This will be the last church service report for 6 weeks. We are now on our religious holidays until Sept. 2. No church, No. S.S., No. U.C.W., and No Hi-C. The Board of Stewards were in charge of this last service but quite a few decided to skip it so atten- dance was slim. Worship was conducted by Don Bea- cock and Keith Puckrin with Mrs. Third giving a worth-while address entitled "Seeking God." We appre- ciate the efforts of these people but wonder if there colleagues on the board couldn't have given them better support.
