SOFTBALL RESULTS * SQUIRT Last Wednesday the boys travelled to Markham and came out on the short end of a 12-5 score. One bad inning in which Markham scored 7 runs led to the Legion's downfall. Todd Healey, Jim Aldred and Bob Ireland led the Port batters with triples while Geo. Burnett pitched a steady game on the mound. On Thursday the squirts hosted Stouffville and eked out a 3 - 2 extra inning win. Bob Ireland singled, went to second on a passed ball and scored the winning run on Geo. Burnett's singled. Jim Aldred addéd a home run and Tim Thompson pitched the win with a solid effort, striking out 12 Stoufville batters. PEE WEE The IGA Pee Wee's lost to Stouffville on Monday night in Port Perry 82. Kevin Walker pitched for the I.G.A. boys. Brian Ro- binson and Steven Geer led the Port Perry batters. On Sunday night Keswick defeated Port 18-8. Kevin Walker started for Port Perry, Bill Owen took over in the sixth inning. Bill also had a home run. JUNIORS The Van Camp Contrac- tors lost to Binbrook 5-2 on Sat. in their first game at the Oshawa Junior Tourna- ment. One bad inning which resulted in 4 runs cost Port the game. Laurie Williams started for Van- Camps with Roland Skinner taking over in the fifth inning. The Tournament was won by Cobourg who defeated Galt 3-2. Designed hockey net The STAR has learned that it was probably John Ross Roach; the Port Perry N.H.L. goaltender who passed away last week, who designed the hockey nets now in use. Acording to our informa- tion Mr. Roach played in the days 'of square nets when pucks were more likely to bounce out of the net. He is credited with designing the circular nets now in use.
