Shirley Women's Institute, August meeting !« The August meeting of the Shirley Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Wm. Lambe on Wed., August 8 at 8 p.m. Presi- dent Muriel Wotten opened the meeting with the Women's Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. Steam show at Uxbridge The citizens of this area will have an opportunity to close the sumnier festivities with several exciting events. One of the most rewarding of these will be the Steam and Antique Show sponsored by the Scott-Uxbridge Historical Society. An annual event, it will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Aug. 26 at Quaker Hill School Museum grounds. Gates open at 2 p.m. After viewing threshing and competing in various events, visitors may also tour the museum. The threshing machine is a pre-1900 model used solely in this area. It was owned by Arthur Hamilton. The Society was fortunate in being able to purchase the machine earlier this year. A steam engine, twned by Bill Wood, will power the threshing machine. The whole operation will be con- ducted by local experts. Tt should prove an entertain- ing event. Also on display will be other steam antique cars and tractors. Refreshments will be served to give relief to straw dust drv throats. For a stroll through the past for memories to treasure into the future, join the Society's Steam and Antique Show.
