ARIE Top Safety Patroller Scott Howey, 13 of Queen Street Port Perry, has just returned from one week at camp near Bolton, courtesy of the Ontario Motor League. Scott was chosen over Port Perry's 45 other safety patrollers for his efficiency and dedication to duty. His job is to sort of supervise the other students who serve as. crossing guards at nine Port Perry location. Last spring Scott was pre- 'sented with a new watch at a ceremony in Oshawa for his work, and last week he went to Cedar Glen Camp for safety patrollers. Councillors at the camp are all policemen, most of them with the Ontario Pro- vincial Police. The campers time at Cedar Glen is divided bet- ween class sessions where the youngsters learn safety and first aid, and organized recreation programs. Scott says the. camp is co-educational and regular dances were held. Softball standings The Legion Squirts are tied at one game each with Cobourg Legion in the Zone 4 Squirt "B" final. On Saturday in Port Perry Co- bourg had only 8 men avail- able, and after a 45 minute delay the game was award- ed to Port Perry. The third and deciding game will be played on Wed. or Thurs. this week. The winner will advance to the semi- finals with Stouffville who edged Minesing 2-1 in their third game. Epsom news Mr. Henry Skerrat of Ken- dal and Mr. Len Hance of Scugog called on the Chris- ties last week. Mrs. Norman Brooks of Epsom is visiting relatives and friends in England. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Moss and son Paul of Toronto spent the weekend holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred West. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobson called on Mrs. F. Munro on Sunday evening. Mr. Kenneth Jeffery of Parry Sound visited for several days with his brother Gordon and Mrs. Jeffery. Mrs. H. Brant, Linda and Carol of Toronto called on Mrs. F. Munro on Friday. Carol remained to visit and returned home with her when they called on Monday to pick her up. Rev. Brian Gazzard will be guest speaker at Utica Anniversary, Sept. 16th at The Lions Club Bantams won 835 on Saturday at home to even up the Zone 3 Bantam "C" final at one game each. Stouffville won the opener 7-5. Larry El son pitched the win for the Lions boys. The Van Camp Juniors will now meet Domville in the Ontario Junior "C" semi-final after defeating Zephyr 5-3 and 12-1. In House League Squirt, Greenbank lead the Waffle Whiffers 2 games to 0. On 2:30 p.m. There will be special music. The Epsom -- Utica U.C.W. will meet at Epsom on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton, Mr. and Mrs. K. Ashton, Mr. and Mrs. B. Bushell were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. K. Catherwood at their cottage at Balsom Lake. Dr. Jerrold Asling and family of Hanover are holi- daying with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Asling. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kerry and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stear- man at Milton and also attended the Steam Show. Bill will be teaching in the School for the Deaf. He took training for this position at Belleville last year. Mr. and Mrs. John Wirsma and family of Blythe visited Mr. and Mrs. Ross Evans for the week- end. Thursday night at the Le- gion Diamond Greenbank won 30-14. Phil Robinson and Peter Christie share the Port Perry pitching. Jeff Foote pitched the win for Greenbank. Keith MacKinnon had two home runs for Port Perry. Including the Monday night previews at Haliburton High School and five perfor- mances each week at the Academy Theatre in Lind- say, the attendance was an exact 74 percent of capacity.
