Ban- tam "C" semi-final on Sat- urday afternoon and dropped a 8 - 5 decision to Odessa. The Odessa team com- bined good pitching and fielding to gain an 8 - 0 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. The Lions Club Bats started to work and turn a no-hit game into close finish as they came up with 5 runs on 4 hits. pitched for Port with Larry Elson taking over in the seventh. Dymond Trophy on Wednesday night in Greenbank as they de- feated Port Perry Wafle Whifers 28 - 5 to sweep the best of five series, 3 games to 0. Squirt Port Perry girls fighting to retain softball championship Last'Wednesday night, the Port Perry Girl's ball team hosted 'Ingersoll in the final round of P.W.S.U. The girls played a steady nine innings of ball to take the visitors 11 - 5 in the first game. The second game was played in Ingersoll, Sat. Sept. 8, again both teams played an exciting game. But Port Perry stayed on top with a score of 12 - 4 to become the champs. Legion Squirts Lose to Cobourg The Cobourg Legion squirts edged Port Perry Legion 9 - 7 to take the 0.A.S.A. Squirt "B" Zone 4 final 2 games to 1. Port Perry held a 4 - 2 lead in this game but one bad inning turned the tables in favour of Cobourg. The local boys enjoyed a fine season as they improved greatly as the season progressed. III 1 Parsnips ................ 0 PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Sept. 12th, 1973 -- 23 " Port loses 2, Greenbank wins 1 Juniors edge Domville Phil Cochrane win semi final opener Port Perry Van Camp Construction Jrs. defeated Domville on Saturday even- ing 7 - 6, to win the opening game of the Ontario Amateur Softball Associa- tion semi-final series. Laurie Williams pitched the win for the local club, and inspite of late inning difficulties pitched a strong game, allowing 6 hits and striking out 12 Domville batters. Ed Burchell took the loss for the visitors and while he struck out 17 Port batters, he allowed 5 hits. The Domville Jrs. struck early as they put together 3 solid hits in the first inning and jumped into an early 2 - 0 lead, but the local Jrs. came back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a walk to Roger Holtby and singles by Doug Christie and Laurie Williams. Port Perry opened the game up in the third inning when they tallied 5 runs on three hits, an error, and two walks. Roger Holtby and Neil Clarke had singles, but the big hit was a grand slam home run by Dave Bour- geois who drove a hard line drive over the right fielders head. The local Jrs. scored another run in the sixth inning when Steve Cochrane hit a hard ball to centre field for a home run and a 7 - 2 lead. The Domville club scored single runs in the seventh and eight inning, and made a very exciting finish with 2 runs in the top of the ninth inning and had the tieing and winning runs on second and third bases when the last batter ground out to end the game.
