New conflict of interest Premier William Davis last week made public amendments to the Public Service Act regulations which provide guidelines to public servants on conflict of interest. The Premier stated: "Last year when I issued conflict of interest guide- lines for Cabinet ministers and parliamentary assist- ants, I said that considera- tion would be given to issu- ing similar guidelines for members of the public service. I am pleased to announce those guidelines today. "We have been fortunate in Ontario in being served by a public service with a well-deserved reputation for integrity, and what I am announcing today should not be interpreted as any reflec- tion on it. Rather, these guidelines made public regulations are intended to assist public servants in determining their responsib- ility to the public and to ensure that there is no actual or appearance of a conflict of interest." At this time, the new regulations will only refer to public servants who are appointed under The Public Service Act. "The intent," Mr. Davis went on to say, 'is to heighten each employee's awareness of his or her responsibilities to the public as a result of employment with the government. Con- flict of interest is a moral as' well as a legal issue and our best defence is a high level of individual responsibility to protect the public in- terest." you win anew 1974 MOXO-S (Model F340--Ontario's Family Snowmobile) Your {3il22 waiting for you at your Moto-Ski dealers!
