Two football wins for seniors wn... 71. On Tuesday, Oct. 2nd, Port Perry Seniors travelled to Uxbridge and came out of the game on the top of a 6 - 0 win. The game was not indicative of the rivalry between Port Perry and Uxbridge as 'it was high- lighted by lack of desire by both teams. Port . Perry's only touchdown came on a scoring pass from Dave Jobb to Bill Van Camp. On Friday, Oct. 5th, Port Perry travelled to Dun- barton and came out - winners on a strong 28 - 15 performance. Dunbarton opened the scoring with a single point but the lead was short-lived, as Port stormed right back with Bill Van- Camp scoring on an option pass from Dave Jobb. The convert was good and the score read 7 - 1 in favour Juniors earn shutout over Cobourg Cougars On Sunday, Sept. 30th, Port Perry Flamingo Pastries Junior ""C"' Hockey Club hosted Cobourg at Uxbridge Arena and defeat- ed the Cougars 6 - 0. Wayne Cordingley and Ken David- son shared the goaltending for Flamingos and both made some fine saves. The line of Dave Jackson, Neil McLaughlin and Ken Jeffrey was the big threat for Flamingos as Jackson scored two goals and McLaughlin one. Other goal scorers for the Flamingos were Bob St. John, Bob Craig and Marcel Belanger. The entire defence looked good in this contest. On Thursday, Oct. 4th the Flamingos travelled to Cobourg for a return match with the Cougars. This time the Cougars won by a 4 - 2 score and outshot the Flamingos by 34 to 20. Cordingley again came up with a strong game in goal as did Paul Hadden on the defence. Ken Jeffrey and Mark Jobb were the goal scorers for Flamingos. Several players who should earn regular spots on the team were missing from the lineup. Coach Fred Etcher feels that with possibly one or two more players added to the roster the Flamingos should be a real threat for the league championship. League play starts on Sunday, Oct. 14th at Port Perry Arena with Port Hope supplying the opposition. Game time is 8:15 p.m. Your fan support would be greatly appreciated by the players and you will be seeing some very exciting hockey this season. They missed the convert though but still had the lead 9 - 7. From here on in it was all Port Perry. Van Camp scored on a one yard plung, and then Shawn Lackie scored on a one yard drive. Both touchdowners were converted, thus making the score 21 - 9. Dunbarton got one touch- down back late in the game but Dave Jackson's ten yard run for a touchdown with about a minute remaining put the game on ice. This made the final score 28-15 in favour of Port. The team plays its next home game on Friday, October 12th so lets' get out and show the team some support. Season starts Dr. M.B. Dymond M.P.P. Dave Bourgeois opened the scoring for the local club at 8:42 of the first period on a goalmouth scramble, with assists going to Dave Jack- son and Neil McLaughlin. The Rangers fought back and tied the game at 15:46 on a goal by Len Walker from Lou Tomlinson and the first period ended in a 1 - 1 tie. The Flamingos' opened up a two goal lead in the second period as Mark Jobb, who is making the move up to Junior "C" from last year's All-Ontario championship team Beare Motor Bantams, scored both goals, with Jamie Malcolm and Bob St. John getting assists. Jobb's first goal of the second period came on a quick wrist shot which beat John Schaap in the Sutton net before he had a chance to move. The second goal of the period by the young centre man came on a tremendous slapshot which was in the net before the goaly could move as he was screened by his own defense man. The Jrs. put the game away in the third period as hardworking Ken Jeffery scored at 3:13 from Rick Campbell and Dave Hill. Dave Jackson finished the scoring with assists going to Paul Hadden and Neil McLaughlin. Port Perry again received strong goaltending from Ken Davidson who played the first two periods and Wayne Cordingley who played the 3rd. The new coach this season Fred Etcher has only four holdovers from last years team, but already in three exhibition games he has the young club playing a fast skating, aggressive brand of hockey which was Fred's trade mark when he played for the World Champion Whitby Dunlops in the late 50's. The Flamingos this season are going with a younger line-up of players which I am sure will play a crowd pleasing brand of hockey as already there seems to be great team spirit and plenty of hustle on the ice. The local fans will get their chance to see the new editions of the young Flamingos as they open the season at home on Sunday, October 14th at 8 p.m. when there oppostion will be the Port Hope Panthers.
