The vegetables were tasted by all the girls and leaders. The meeting was closed with 4-H motto. Dymond, MPP informs the Star that the Ministry of Community and Social Services has advised him a $10,000 grant has been provided to assist in the construction of the Latcham Community Hall. "This is the maximum grant available to the municipality for this Community Centre and I'm sure will be of much value to the Board in achieving their objectives with this fine pro- ject," Dr. Dymond said. Although it is hard to be- lieve, Isaiah Irwin of R. R. No. 2, Seagrave celebrated that birthday Wednesday, October 3. To meet him, he gives you the impression of a much younger person. His disposition, wonderful smile and sense of humour makes it a pleasure to be in his company. On the important day last week his family joined to celebrate his birthday at Conway Gardens and pay him the tribute he so rightly deserves. . NN 985.2421 Mr. Irwin was born in Cartwright Township in 1879, spent his childhood and younger years there. He was married in. 1908 to Clara Wanamaker who passed away in 1941. The couple lived at Raglan and Sonya before settling on a 175 acre farm near Seagrave. Four geneations attended the dinner in his honour last week; Mr. and Mrs. G. Bright with whom Mr. Irwin is making his home, a granddaughter Jean and her husband, Mr. Rod Barbour, Scarborough; two grand- sons, George of Port Perry, his wife Linda and John living at home. Two grand- children Tammy and Tod Barbour were also present for the occasion. ' Scugog Island 1-H Scugog Island Homemakers The second meeting was held on Sept. 24 at the home of Mrs. Stichman. It was opened with 4-H pledge and Jennifer Pearce read the minutes. The discussion was on selection and cooking of fresh vegetables. We pre- pared creamed carrots, stuffed onions and panned cabbage. It was tasted by the leaders and girls. Remarks were some good and some didn't like it. Next meeting to be held at Grace Church and each member asked to bring 25 cents. Three welcomed.
