John has taken an early retirement from the Department of Energy; Mines and Resources and Director of 'Dominion Observatory to accept the appointment as Director of WNESCO'S two year Seismological Research Program in South East Asia. On October 10th the Lake Scugog Historical Society are having a presentation at Blackstock Township Hall, when Miss Elizabeth Wilmot will give a short address and pictures to illustrate the importance of the railway in our history. Miss Wilmot has photographed every aspect of railroading, and has hundreds of examples of railway architecture from all over Canada. She is writing a book on Railway Stations, and has had several stories published in the Globe and Mail. Watch the Coming Event column in this paper for particulars. A good number of Senior Citizens enjoyed hearing Mr. Glenn Wanamaker speak at their regular monthly meeting last week. All who heard him were greatly enlightened by the work of the 'United Nations' which he chose as his topic. A bus has been scheduled for Tuesday morning (yesterday) to take the members on a 'Leaf Tour" to the Haliburton area. They are to have dinner at Kandalori Camp at Dorset. Anyone watching the program "Away Out" on Channel 5 on Sunday, had a preview of this camp in its colourful setting. The 2nd Port Perry Girl Guide Company started its new season on Wednesday, September 12th. A welcome is extended to the new girls who have joined this .year, and 'a welcome back to the last year guides. New members are invited to the meeting held at the Scout Hall on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., under the leadership of Mrs. Wanni- nkhof, Captain, Mrs. Hol- land, Mrs. Hatcher and Mrs. Peyton Lieutenants. Many activities are being planned, a pioneer camp will be held Thanksgiving week end at Chalk Lake.
