Durham took 45 percent of the 53.019 figure vote, with Oshawa being the choice of 29 percent. The remaining two names on the ballot, McLaughlin and Pickering, which grabbed about 13 per- cent. But distribution of the vote among the eight municipal- ities was very uneven. Of the 24.061 votes cast for Durham. only 4.424 came from Oshawa. where the name was second choice, getting 22 percent. Our congratulations and best wishes go to this gentleman who has now entered his 95th year. To celebrate that 94th birthday the Brights had. a family party on Wednesday at Conway Gardens. The U.C.W. were called together hurriedly last Wednesday © evening to decide the fate of the turkey dinner. We aren't certain whether our men believe in Women's Lib or are just a little hen-picked but they left the decision to the ladies who gave it a resounding 20 to 1 go-ahead vote. The dinner will take place on the usual date -- the first Wednesday in November. Unit 1 was in charge of the devotional led by Mrs. Nobbs. Others taking part in this Thanksgiving program were Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. McNeil, Mrs. Keen and Mrs. Wray. During the business period reports were received re- garding the manse re-dec- oration and the purchase of the stove for the church kitchen. A committee for planning the turkey dinner was appointed and also a nominating committee. The ladies want your Canada Packer labels as another coffee perk is needed. Thanksgiving brought vis- itors to our community. At the were the Oakwood, Roy Scott home Ken Scotts from the Bev. Scotts from Oshawa and Mrs. Jimmy Andrews and son Chris from Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Don Darrell are spending some time here alternating between the Newman home and Mrs. McNeils. Mrs. Jean MacTaggart has found she still likes Seagrave and returned again to visit Mrs. Fishley for a few days. After being on our own for 21» months, we now have a minister. Rev. Roundell made. his first appearance on Sunday morning. Communion was dispensed at the class of the worship service by Rev. Roundell assisted by Bruce Carr and Mrs. Clements. No birthday money was deposited at S.S. but there ~ should have been. Pinedale anniversary will not be held on Oct. 14th as supposed but on Oct. 21st at 11: o'clock with Rev. Newton Reid as guest speaker. This means regular services at Seagrave next Sunday. Don't forget about the Induction service at Green- bank on Wednesday night on the 'take-out' supper or Saturday. »
