Cafik not honest-Kenny Reeve Bob Kenny had a four letter word to describe Ontario Riding M.P. Norm Cafik last week. The word, although not profane, is not a compliment either. Mr. Cafik had accused council of playing party politics with federal aid programs. In an interview with the STAR the M.P. had said that he called Port Perry council every week for months last year to try and get a Local Initiatives Program application submitted on time. The L.ILP. money was to have Prince A number of families were away over the special week- end as a result were not present for the combined communion and thanks- giving worship service on Sunday. The sanctuary was decor- ated with the usual display of vegetables, bread, wine etc. Our organist Mrs. B. Snelgrove accompanied the choir for their lovely an- them. Following our minister, Rev. Brawns message he presided over the obser- vance of sacrament assisted by elders B. Snelgrove, L. Beacock, A. Martyn, C. Willes. Offering gathered by Mrs. E. Martyn and Mr. G. Hunter. Please do not forget rum- mage-bake-sale church parlors this coming Satur- day 2-4 p.m. We would be happy if you When regional government becomes official here on January 1, similar government reforms will also become official in the Hamilton-Burlington area, the Mississauga Peel area and at Wasaga Beach. helped pay labour costs for the new washrooms at the waterfront. In the strongest possible _ terms Reeve Kenny accused Mr. Cafik of being untruth- ful. The Reeve was supported by Clerk-treasurer Neil Brodie. "I have never spoken to Cafik in my life," he said. Mr. Brodie said his office tried to contact the M.P. after the story was published in the STAR on September 19. 'He never returned our call," says Brodie. The L.I.P. grant in Albert make it a date for next Sunday is our annual anni- versary service at 2:30 with Rev. E.S. Linstead of Claremont as guest speaker, Remember Sunday School is withdrawn for that day. We are glad to learn Mrs. Mulvey, Mrs. R. Sweetman, 'Mrs. K. Elson are home from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olsen and family spent the week- end with his brother Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Olsen at their cottage, Minden. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pearsell were her sisters Mr. and Mrs. Don Hill of Fergus; and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Aitken of Acton. Mrs. E. Byers enjoyed the hundred mile trip to northern air and scenery for the weekend at the cottage of her daughter and husband Mr. and Mrs. Fennell. Mr. and Mrs. Vance enjoyed joining the family gathering at her sis- ter's cottage Mrs. B. Kent at Minor's Bay over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. H. Har- grave. Willowdale visited her mother Mrs. Mabel Graham then all drove to Lindsay calling on friends. It would have covered labour costs of about $100 a week for unemployed brick- layers to work on the wash- rooms. However, in a town where Labourers get paid $160 a week there were no $100 bricklayers available, so council had to forego the grant and pay for construc- tion out of tax revenue. At its October 2 meeting, Council decided not to sub- mit an application for a grant for next winter at this time. New applications are now being received. After the way things went last year, commented Deputy reeve Phil Orde, I can't see any point in apply- ing. However council kept the way open for an application to be submitted at a later date. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Oct. 10th, 1973 -- 19 Nestleton, Caesarea area Congratulations are defin- etly in order to our new Mayor elect, Lawrence Malcolm and also to the other elected members of the new Regional Govern- ment. May their term in office be all that they expect of it. To those of you that are unaware that the four cor- ners in Caesarea is now a four way stop . . . watch it. . the O.P.P. have already stopped two citizens and warned them that the next time they will be given a ticket. On Oct. the 2nd. Court Lady Snowbird held their meeting in the home of Sr. D. Lee. Plans for the annual bazaar and tea were final- ized. The Lady Foresters have booked the Merry- Makers for their dance on Port Perry Council News Port Perry council deci- ded October 2 that an opening ceremony for the new sewage pumping station on Simcoe Street North would not be neccesary. The "Official opening" had been suggested by the provincial government. A sign will be placed.on Latcham Centre to identify the building. Deputy reeve Phil Orde pointed out that it is pretty difficult for some- one coming from out of town to a function at the centre to. find the place. People, according to Mr. Orde, drive right by the building without knowing what it is. The sign will go up as soon as a suitable one can be obtained. } Council was informed that the old railway right of way has been fenced off. Apparently motorists had been using the path as a roadway shortcut from the arena to the north end of Lilla Street. A water main under the path has been broken three times in recent months.and council thought the traffic may have been partly to blame for the breakages. The Sanitary Landfill Site Committee will be asked to give approval to the councils of Port Perry, Reach and Scugog to store their piles of winter sand on the com- mittees property. The com- mittee is made up of members of all three councils. The land, is owned jointly by all three. The suggestions that the Service, cleaning and conditioning plus free replacement or repair, whichever i is necessary, of the following: (f) Fire pot filters (fibre ty, (g) Annual replacement of oil filter cartridge and one change of air landfill site be used as a storage area for sand came originally from Reach Township council. Council will enter into a contract with Canada Valve and Hydrant Company for maintenance of Port Perry's fire hydrants. The contract was valued at about $2,500. It was explained that some village hydrants are quite old and in pretty rough shape. The company will spend one evening in town showing firemen and works depart- ment employees the proper method of using and caring for hydrants. Reeve Kenny pointed out that the contract is on-a per hydrant basis, so the new council may add fire hy- drants in Blackstock after January 1 if it wants. The President of Lady Snowbird thanked our hostess thus closing another evening of business, pleasant conver- sation and a keen display of fraternalizm. The next meeting shall be hosted by Sr. M. Bobel on November the sixth at eight p.m. On Wednesday evening while driving home from a visit with my daughter, Mrs. R. Raines in Port Perry, 1 was astonished to see two skunks sitting directly in the beam of my headlights. I came to a halt and patiently awaited their decision, for I was not about to tempt them by making a move. I never could stand a "skunky"' smelling car. I sat wishing h opefully that someone else would come along and com- fort me, but this was not to be. As I sat there one of those nosy critters moved slowly under my car and took his merry old time about it. At this point I harbored all sorts of terrifying thoughts. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, the 'little stinker'"" came out from under my car and joined his _friend and as I let out a sigh of plain relief, they slowly toddled away and I quickly drove home. Get well wishes are sent to Miss Melody Train of Caesarea. Melody has had a bout with that ever present flu bug. I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to our friends in the Port Perry Nursing home. Just a thought . . . A single rose of once glorious hue swayed gently in a crisp fall breeze . . . thus resembling a women aging. . gracefully . . tho a little regretfully in the autumn of her life.
