Cawker Approximately one hundred members and visi- tors attended the Install- ation Cremonies of Blue Ray Chapter, yNo. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, on the evening of October 11th, held in the Oddfellow Rebekah Hall, Ontario Street, Port Perry, to honour the newly elected Worthy Matron Sister Betsy Staniland of Blackstock, and her staff of officers for 1973 - 74. Many Chapters were rep- resented and Worthy Matron Sister Avelyn Williams of Nestleton, welcome a num- ber of Past District Deputy Grand Matrons, Presiding Matrons & Patrons, Past Matrons and Patrons to the east. Blue Ray Members were warmly welcomed by Worthy Patron Brother Bill Pearson. The Installation ceremon- ies were conducted in a highly efficient manner, and during the evening Sister Nellie Pring of Bowman- ville, thrilled those present with her lovely vocal solos, chosen especially for the occasion. Her able accomp- anist was Sister Winnifred Newton of Whitby. After completion of the Installation ceremonies, the newly installed Worthy Matron Sister Betsy Stani- land had a pleasant task to perform, the retiring Matron Sister Avelyn Williams and retiring Patron Brother Bill Pear- son were invited to the East to receive their past officers jewels. Sister Phyllis Fallis of Bowmanville, daughter of Sister Avelyn had the honour of pinning the jewel on her mother and Sister Mary Pearson, wife of Brother Bill pinned the jewel on her husband. After the meeting closed, members and friends renewed old friendships, while enjoying the bountiful Buffet Luncheon, arranged by convener Sister Marjo- rie Edwards and her committee. concluding a very successful and satis- fying evening for Blue Ray. The president, Eleanor Davidson, opened the meeting with a reading en- titled 'Happiness." The treasurer's report showed a net balance of $1,602.35. . There was a short discussion of the Annual Dance and the success it had been. Also, a report of the Jewellery demonstration held the previous week and although as yet, no complete financial report, it always was extremely well suppor- ted, with all money made going into Hospital Auxiliary funds in its endeavour to help the Board in every way possible. The Bootee Convenor reported gifts of bootees to 6 girls and 3 boys during the last month. The Tuck Shop Volunteer Convenor reported the Tuck Shop was staffed until November. The Doll Draw Committee reported they had the licence for the Draw, had contacted Emmerson's re displays of dolls and asked everyone to note the date for the Santa Claus parade and Doll Draw have been moved up one week to the first Saturday in December.
