This is the 32nd time that the top animals from this district have been brought together for a Championship Show. Romandale Farms Ltd., Unionville, picked up the Premier Breeder banner, with F. Roy Ormiston, Brooklin, providing the greatest competition. Oak Ridges Farms Ltd., Oak Ridges, carried off the Premier Exhibitor banner with relative ease over runner-up. Robert Flett, Oshawa. Judge Fred B. Griffin, Burgessville, decided on a famous cow, Glen Isle Tel- star Jean, to win the Senior and Grand Champion female awards, describing the aged cow as outstanding with beautiful blending of parts and firm udder attach- ments. Jean has picked up such notable winnings as Reserve Grand Champion at the 1973 Stratford Spring Show, Grand Champion at 1973 York County Black & White Show, 1st dry cow at the Royal Winter Fair, 1972, and Grand Champion in Peterborough last year. An outstanding pair of senior yearlings teamed up to win the Junior female Championships Bond Haven Telstar Best, owned and bred by Bond Haven Farms Ltd., Beeton, was termed as having more quality and a nicer dairy rib than runner- up Holtbyholme Many May, owned by Oak Ridges Farms Ltd. There were three group classes which attracted a large turnout of cattle. F. Robert Flett, Oak Ridges Farms Ltd., and Bond Haven Farms Ltd. teamed up to win the Senior Get-of-Sire with a group by Roybrook Telstar. F. Roy Ormiston of Roybrook Farms, provided the Roybrook Ace daughters which placed second. An unusual twist of events: saw five animals owned by Oak Ridges Farms Ltd. in the line-up for best uddered female awards. The Grand Champion, Glen Isle Telstar Jean, eventually won the class and subsequently the Murco Farms Trophy. The show saw visitors from several European countries including a group of 50 Germans under the leadership of Dr. Gunther Rath. Ontario Dairy Princess Heather Innes, Embro, and Peterbo- rough County Dairy Prin cess Dorothy Moore were on hand to award prize ribbons. Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program A new Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program was announced today by the Min- ister of Colleges and Univer- sities, Jack McNie. In 1974 - 75 the $3 million program will assist one thousand students of outstanding academic ability to pursue graduate studies at Ontario universities. The scholarships will provide $800 a term plus graduate = tutition and related fees for either two or three consecutive terms. Selected calves from- 4-H clubs in the Counties of Northumber- land, Peterborough, Durham, Ontario, Victoria, Prince Edward, Hastings and the Districts of Halibur- ton and Muskoka were eligible to compete.
