i On Saturday evening a wonderful programme of music was presented by the Concordia Philharmonic Orchestra of Oshawa at the Rec. Centre. The 37 piece orchestra thrilled the good crowd with a wide variety of music. Miss Joan Wehrens, a fifteen year-old Oshawa student" favoured with several fine selections on her accordian. The Cartwright Ranger Choir sang four numbers which were well done. The first two were accompanied by Leslie Wright on her guitar while Marie VanCamp accom- panied the other two on the piano. At the close of the programme, Vernon Assel- stine, President of the Black- stock Agricultural Society, voiced appreciation to Mr. _ Frederick Pleasants, con- ductor of the Orchestra, to the Ranges and to those who attended. . The Candace Unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Roy McLaughlin on Dec. 11 with all members present, three, visitors and three children. The hostess served a delicious luncheon at 12:30 as a beginning to our Christmas programme. This included Christmas poems, carol singing, plans made for , shut-ins and a Christmas devotional by Peggy Larmer. Each member brought a baby picture and joined in a contest to identify them. Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Alma Fowler were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Larmer, Danielle, Jason and Rebecca, Pickering, Mr. Don Chislett, Whitby and Miss Edna Larmer. Rev. and Mrs. J.C. Hill and Jonathan, Columbus were Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin, Linda, Janis and Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lease- man held a Shop Party to officially open their new shop on Saturday evening. Guests included friends, business associates and neighbours at Purple Hill. The afternoon unit held its Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Aileen Byers. After a delicious dessert, our group leader Mrs. Florence Larmer opened the meeting with a poem, "Do you Have Time to Pray?" The hymn, Once in Royal David's City" was sung. During the worship service, Florence Larmer read the Christmas Story from Matthew and a reading, Look At Christmas. Minutes were read and the roll call answered by 14 members and 1 guest. A skit was provided by Gladys Thompson entitled "Nog Silent Night" with eleven ladies participating. A very worthwhile afternoon closed with prayer by Flo- rence Larmer.
