"Beare Bantams starting to roll meet West Rouge Monday night A Dec. 19, Stoufville 1. , In this the first meeting this season Beare Banfam started the game strong and really out played Stouffville and scored the only goal of the" first period from the sticks of Stu Cochrane. Larry Elsonmade it 2-0on a power play goal. Port Perry relaxed and Stoufville tied the score with 2 quick goals. Port Perry's Kent Baird scored only to have Stouf- ville tie the score again to make it 3 - 3. Phil Cochrane scored Port's 4th goal and once again. Stoufville tied the score at 4 - 4 at the 17.50 minute mark of the 3rd period and the game ended a draw. Port Perry 1, Dec. 28 . Beare Motor Bantams travelled to Stoufville. Port Perry started strong. Steve Jones got the first geal assisted by Elson atl 5:20 a minute later Larry Elson scored a beautiful goal un- assited. Bill Bridge and Kent Baird scored a goal each and Port led 4 0 end of 2nd period. Stoufville fought back and scored 2 quick goals at the 6 and 8 minuted mark. Larry Elson playing his strongest two way game of the season made an end to end rush and scored at 12:46 less than a minute later, Ed Olsen finished the scoring. Port won 6 -- 2.7 Atoms lose 6 in 28 starts Malmont Farms Atoms have played 28 games to date with 14 wins, 8 ties and six losses. The team has scored a total of 86 goals while holding the opposition to 45. The goal tending has been" excellent with a total of 9 shutouts recorded. Over the holidays the team played three games in a Woodville tournament, win- ning the first two handily, then being held to a 5 to 5 tie with Woodville in the champ- ionship game. Woodville was awarded the victory on the basis of having scored the first goal. At home on Dec. 26th, the k boys won the Championship in the Port Perry Lions Club sponsored tournament, de- feating Uxbridge 4 to 0, Stouffville 3 to 2 in overtime and Peterboro 4 to 1. Scoring for Malmont were Horton, Sandison and Wilbur, with assists going to Williams and Potts. In an exhibition against Woodville on Jan. 2nd. the local Atoms came out 2to 1 winners on goals by Vernon from Jones and Blayone from Healey and Johnson. In back to back league games with Uxbridge Jan. 4th and 5th they battled to a scoreless tie at home, then went right back to Uxbridge and won 4 to 1. Scoring for Malmont were Sandison. Storry, Johnson and Robin- son with Vernon and Jones picking up assists. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm, sponsors of the team made another gener- ous gesture recently when they presented the players with Shaeffer pens. * The next home game is played on January 11 against Stoufville. January 2, 1971 Beare Bantams travelled to Newcastle and really wiped them out 13 - 2. Phil Cochrane had a big night, 4 goals and 1 assist. Larry Elson also had a 5 point night, 1 goal and 4 assist. Bill Bridge and Mike McQuade 'cach scored 2 goals. Colin Wackett, Scot Wilbur, Kent Baird and Robt. Evan got 1 goal each. Robt Baird, Mike Healey, Steve Jones each had 2 assists. Port scored 6 goals in the first period, 5 in the second period and 2 goals in the last period. Stan Glass led Emiel's with a Minor Hockey Week As one of his first official duties Mayor Lawrence Malcolm has proclaimed Jan. 12 to 19 Minor Hockey Week in Scugog, as the town gets ready to welcome inter- national competition. The Wallisellen Switzer- land Midget team arrived in Canada earlier this week, and are playing a series of games out of town as warm ups for their match in Port Perry next Wednesday. Coming right in the middle of Minor Hockey Week the international game will pit Port Perry's Grant Menzies Midgets against their Swiss counterparts in what looks like a sell out game. About 800 tickets are avail- able at one dollar each for the game which gets under- way at 7 p.m. January 16. In another exhibition game during Minor Hockey Week the Flamingos will take on Oshawa's Junior "B" Legionaires. This game starts at 8 p.m. on Sunday January 13. A Bantam tourna- ment will be held here Saturday, January 12, at 8 Cedar Creek Mr. and Mrs. Alf Garrard of Hayden were recent visi- tors with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cummings.
