The 70" by 30' addition will add kitchen space to the building. Former Reeve Cliffton Crowell said that 60 per cent of the building costs were raised through devel- opers fees. Provincial law forces a housing sub divider to donate 5 per cent of the land being sub divided to the munici- pality for a park. However, the council has the right to demand cash instead of land and it is this way Scugog council raised most the cost of the kitchen. Mr. Crowell said a Provincial grant has been applied for, and if approved this grant should cover most of the unpaid 40 percent. The main part of the building served as a town hall for decades. In 1967 an addition was added to pro- vide office space for the Clerk-treasurer, and council chambers. This addition, built as a Centennial project, also brought central heating for the first time. The new Scugog council has been -asked to appoint retiring members of last year's council as the com- munity hall board. To provide funds to keep the hall growing a number of A History Of Ontario County have been donated. The books are for sale at $10. each from the hall board.
