Over 40 members sat down to a delicious beef dinner prepared and served by W.I. members of Wick Presby- terian Church prior to the actual meeting. Presiding over the meeting were Neil Hunter, president and Glenn Wana- maker, sec-treas. and his able assistant Mrs. Wana- maker. i Mr. Hunter in his opening remarks said the year 1973 had been very successful and expressed his gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Wanamaker for their excellent work, and said, "they are a big asset to the Society." His apprecia- tion was also directed to the 'officers and directors for their willingness and co-op- eration at all times during the past year. He especially mentioned one of the directors, Mr. Dan Madsen for his generous donation of $2,000 last year. The money had been used to improve and paint buildings at the Fair Grounds. During reports by various directors it was brought to the attention of those present that considerable work and improvements had been made at the Fair Grounds during the year. The moneys must have been well spent, because track, buildings etc. has never been.' in better condition. Mr. Wanamaker, secre- tary-treasurer in present- ing the annual statement also answered question to pertinent questions in rela- tion to the statement from the members. The organization is cer- tainly in a very healthy financial state and shows a bank balance as of Dec. 31, 1973 of over $2,000. compared to just over $200. last year. At the end of the year, the organization had 110 paid up members. Norman Cafik, MP; Dr. M.B. Dymond, MPP; Lawrence Malcolm, Mayor, Township of Scugog and Walter Beath, Chairman of Region of Durham were appointed honourary presi- dents. Two new names were * added to the list of honourary directors; Armour McMillan and Robert Robertson. Mr. ' McMillan has been a member of the Board over 30 years, and resigned as a director this year. Mr. Hunter brought to the attention of those present that growing interest in the construction of a new arena at the Fair Grounds seem to: be prominent in Port Perry. The president as well as the members in giving their opinions on the matter all appeared to agree that an arena project would be of benefit to the organization. Hubbard, Bowman- ville, formerly of Burketon is _ a patient in Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. We hope he will soon be well again. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. G. Dean and family in the sudden passing of a fond and loving brother in Stouff- ville district as a result of an accident. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mac- donald, Oshawa were dinner guests of Mrs. W. Bryan on Sunday. Mrs. T. Bailey visited with Mrs. F. Harding, Oshawa during the week. Mr. C. Cooper, Orono called on Mrs. W. Bryan on Wednesday this week. Several from this district attended the' annual Farming Frontier's show at Utica Community Hall. Stanley Taylor attended the Port Perry Agricultu- ral Society's annual meeting and dinner at Wick Presby- terian Church, Tuesday last week. : More than 300,000 tourists visited the Yukon territory during 1973, an increase of 12 per cent over 1972.
