Some 200 students mainly from Port Perry are under- taking a 14 day tour of Britain in March. The 170 students from Port Perry High School will be joined by students from Blackstock High School in their tour. The mayor of Sheffield is one of several dignitaries who will officially greet the students. Durham region chairman Walter Beath will be meeting with students from the group and present them with momentos and official credentials to be presented to the mayor and council of the city of Durham in Durham County in England. The students will be spending 2 days n the Durham area and will present their credentials to the city of Durham during their stay. At a meeting of the stu- dents and their parents last week, Mr. Arculus, the tour organizer informed the stu- dents that they will also be taken on a private four of the Queen's Art collection while they visit Buckingham Palace in London. Student enthusiasm at the meeting reached a peak when it was announced that the students will be staying at the Holiday-Inn in Bristol a brand new building, com- plete with indoor swimming pool. Mrs. Margaret Waite, of the Non Quon Travel who are Winter Carnival on tomorrow Thursday, February 7th is the day of the annual Winter Carnival at Port Perry High School. The theme is "Wes- tern." In addition to the usual Chuck Wagon Race, there wil be logsawing, nail- hammering and a sack race. One of the last year's favorite events was the Egg toss. This. will also be. ¢on- tinued this year. A feature event will be the broom-ball game between the Grade 13's and the teachers. This will be held on the school grounds. i In conjunction with the Carnival, a "dance-a-thon" will be held in the school auditorium from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The proceeds of this event will -go to the Heart Fund. Music for the eight- hour event will be provided by "Dillinger" and two local roups "Outcast" and Zee- fleche. At Home Ap ril 19 A big date to remember April 19th. The student's council at Port Perry High School has just announced the date and theme of its annual "At-Home" dance. This year the theme is "World Travel" and will draw heavily on the ideas and materials obtained by the pr 200 students of Port Perry High School who will be journeying to Britain on March 9. The "Cana- dians" a dance band from Toronto will provide the 3 hours of music 9 p.m. to 12 midnight. The school queen will be chosen and erowned at the dance. Lovell public school is anticipated, to be ready for spring occupancy.
