There was no Dennis Johnson huge cake, no politicians making speaches, no bands playing . no banners wel- coming the local heroes. Dennis did not win this vear. In fact he did not even compete. His partner Kelly Hume of Tor- onto was mjured before com- petition got under way. And David Porter wo came second in senior dance pairs last year, finished 14th in last vear's world championships and who had hoped to step up mto the spotlight as Canada's champion at the Moncton, New Brunswick finals last weekend ended up. as Canadian Press put it, "perremal second." Last year Dennis Johnson of Port Perry and his partner finished second in Novice pairs competition. This year, based on ability tests, the 18 year old skater was moved up to the Junior category. But before he could com- pete as a junior his partner Kelly Hume collided with a competitor during practice. She was taken to hospital and received several stitches in the lower half of her left leg. Dennis thinks it will be a couple of months before she will skate again, but he predicts, 'we will be there next year." "Kelly is strong and has 14 year old lots of determination," Dennis told the STAR. David Porter and his partner Barbara Berezowski came in second in Senior dance competition, behind Barry and Louise Soper of Vancouver. The Junior pairs champ- tionship was won by the Pinters of London, Ontario. If you're looking for top production talk to your local 'P-A-G man.
