Ee = Adah RS lei PAAR ds NARS a United Church Women hear Moderator The annual meeting of the Lindsay Presbyterial United Church Women was held in Queen Street United Church, Lindsay, on January 30. The highlight of the morn- ing session was the visit of Very Rev. Bruce McLeod, Moderator of the United Church of Canada, intro- duced to the meeting by Mrs. Roeske. : In his most interesting remarks he told us that the Moderator is a person who has an opportunity to be the centre of the churches from Newfoundland to B.C. and to sense the family in the church. A major happening to-day of the church is a new awareness of God as the 3rd person of the trinity. In the U.C.W. we have a terrific sense of variety in the family of the United Church. We go out into the world to meet God's spirit and to declare what we know of it through Jesus Christ. There is a new awareness of the spirit in the presence of God. We are all bound toget- her spiritually and physica- lly in the love of God. There was a brief question and answer period at the close of his address and he was asked to play and sing which he most graciously did. We were led in singing "Its a small world after All." An impressive "In Memor- iam" service was conducted by Miss V. Neal, Victoria Road and Mrs. G. Gilson, Little Britain, The Worship Service was presented by Mrs. Wellman, Bethel, follo- wing along the Theme of the meeting, Where are You? Where is my brother? Re- sponsive readings of "Voices from the Private World and Calling to the People of the Church" followed the story "Which Way". Rev. R.L.. Rumble of the Ecumenical School of the deaf, Toronto, was intro- duced By Mrs. Gillis. He told us that the United Church is becoming involved in 2,200 who are deaf across Canada and some of the problems He encounters as he travels across the country. There are none so deaf as those won't hear. Jesus said 'Go into the world and preach the gospel to all creatures'. We can change things as Christigns who love the unlovely. Take what we have 4 and then share it with others; Don't count your days but make your days count; do something for someone else; no one can stand so tall as the one who can get down and help someone who couldn't get up. Where is my brother? my brother is everywhere, where I am needed. We have only one life to live, give of ourselves in Jesus name. The installation service was conducted by Rev. L. Dorsch. Past Pres., Mrs. A. Gillis, - "Don't top the tank" Cameron; Pres., Mrs. B. Roeske, Burnt River; Vice- Pres., Mrs. G. Gilson, Little Britian; Mrs. G. Stewart, Brechin; 'Mrs. W. The sing-song that opened the afternoon session was very capably led by Rev. G. Hoffstetter, Janetville. "Although we are talking about a small percen- tage of gasoline spilled, 0.01 per cent, because of the huge amounts involved, we lose enough gas for a driver in the 20,000 - annual-mile range to travel for a hundred years," he said. "Over-filling tanks until gas spills, or filling them so full that fuel pours out as the car drives away, adds unburned hydrocarbons to the air. Each year, about 900 tons of hydrocarbon air poll- ution is caused by .this practice," the Minister said. "Here we have a potentially scarce commodity, the price of which is accelerating rapidly, whose wastage adds to our air pollution problems." The Ministry has produced circular decals that read, "Conserve Energy, Fight Pollution, Don't top The Tank." These can be placed on gas cap$. near filler openings or on car windows. "Drivers using these stickers and seeing that this suggestion is compiled with could help reduce air pollu- tion, save gasoline, and in so doing save themselves money," Mr. Auld pointed out. "Auto manufacturers, with prompting from various government bodies, have developed emission control equipment to prevent hydro- carbons being released by evaporation from tanks or caburetors. "Even without current energy considerations, it seems wasteful for consu- mers to pay for fuel they do not use, especially when spillage of this fuel counter- acts their car's emission controls," he ded. conclu- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb, 13th, 1974 -- 9 =HEEEes HARDWARE The Old Mill Collection by Heirloom Largest Selection in Town: ® Pole Lamps ® Swags ® | amps Priced from as low as: 2 pc.'Kroehler' Bhglish pub grouping upholstered, living room distinctively furniture . .. crafted by Kroehler', and specially priced HQ Ottoman extra 389% 385 121) EEE ay 2211 HARDWARE QueensSt Port To td EL Ti a J 2
