Durham decision expected in March Whether the regional Mun- icipality of Durham can con- tinue to call itself by that name appears to be headed for a protracted battle in the courts. Last week, the provin- cial ministry of treasury, economics and intergovern- mental affairs, the prov- incial ministry of consumer and corporate relations, and the regional municipality were granted leave to appeal a Supreme Court decision that would have forced a change in the name. The court action was brought by the town of Durham, a 2,500 population municipality about 30 miles south of Owen Sound. Mr. Justice © Alexander Stark had ruled the town had established a "'prima facie case' that the second use of the name Durham was against the public interest. Any appeal will prob- ably be heard in the divisio- nal court in early March. The term "asthma" means gasping or panting and was used by the Greeks many centuries ago to des- cribe the outstanding fea- tures of the disease. Excav- ations in China and other parts of the world reveal that certain herbs were used to threat asthma as long ago as five thousand years. Christmas Seals fight asthma and other respira- tory diseases. Mr. Bill Scott was guest speaker at the Lion's Club meeting on Monday evening. Mr. Scott is in charge of Security Operations for the Tamblyn and Sayvette stores, western group. His topic was '"'Shop Lifting." Other guest at the meeting were three Oshawa Lions, Jack Anderson and president Bill Tread- well, guest from Port Perry were Len Beadle, Neil Wana- Bob Brown, maker and Allan Rahm. Mrs. Dorothy Koch spent last week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. R. Casson of Wil- lowdale.
