J Factory still in effect on Nursing Home News On Tuesday, Mrs. Weir, the Physio Theropist, was at the Home nearly all day ex- ercising some individually in couples and in classes. Two ladies had a wheelchair race up the hall, using their feet to propel the chairs, hands only for guiding pur- poses. A good way to streng- then weak limbs. Mrs. Nash, a member of the staff showed three films one night. She gets them from the Oshawa Public Library one day, and returns them the next. The first one shown "The Winter Carnival of Quebec" is a colorful record of Quebec City's Annual Carnival, which lasts three weeks as Quebecers pay respect to King Winter. The picture opened with a showing of fine examples of snow sculpture, some of animals (everything life- size) one little girl in a cute suit, and a tam on her head, throwing a snow-ball was lovely - so graceful. One of the best of the snow sculp- ture pieces was a big heavy team of horses harnessed to a sled and the sled full of real children, clad in bright cloth- ing, all so gay and happy. There was shown a boat race among the broken ice chunks, in the river, that looked dangerous. Two men to a boat, would sometimes climb out, pull. their boat over the floe and find a more open channel. The torch light parade on skies was a lovely sight as was the folk-dancing. There were crowds everywhere and fire-works ended the brilliant show. A skiing picture was shown in the Canadian Rockies, where the expert skiers did wonderful jumps and even did a turn in the air while jumping. The scenery up the side of the mountain was lovely, so white the snow, so unmarked by humans and so steep. 1974 and ., GLENELLE TRAILERS on display ~ SEE THE ALL NEW GLENDETTE «Mrs. The last one was a 'Laurel and Hardy' picture, name "The Music Box," funny, but hard on poor Hardy. Consider longer dump hours by Bruce Arnold Durham's works commit- tee has asked its staff to study a request from Scugog council that the dump at Blackstock be open more frequently. The request originated after fifty Cartwright resi- dents appeared at a Scugog council meeting last month with a multi signature peti- tion complaining about the fact the dump is open only on Saturday. The residents said holding garbage for an entire week waiting for the dump to open could be hazardous to health, particularly in summer. NOW ISTHE TIME TO ORDER YOUR WINTER FUEL As a result of that meeting Scugog - Administrator Neil Brodie was instructed to write to the region asking the dump to be open more often. That letter wound its way through the long, time con- suming route regional council has devised for its correspondence and finally made its way to the works committee on February 19. With luck, the works de- partment staff will make a recommendation in time for that recommendation to wind its way back through the long route to council approval before the flies of summer arrive.
