EEN? de ib i a Ll Lilla St. widening included in Works commissioner's plan By Bruce Arnold Regional Works Commiss- ioner Bob Richards has in- cluded $19,500. for buying land, moving hydro poles and removing trees from Lilla Street, in the roads construction budget he "in- tends to present for 1974. The budget estimates were pre- "sented to council for infor- mation only. The region is not expected to act on them for a few weeks. The estimates cover Lilla Street (regional road 2) from Scugog Streét to the 7th. concession. An additional $82,000 is included for resur- facing of the regional road from the 7th to Seagrave. Altogether the commiss- ioner hopes to spend $257,400 on rdads in Scugog this year. EPSOM ROAD Land is being purchased for - improvements on «regional road 8 (the 7th concession( from Epsom to Port Perry. The transfer of the south part of 4 lot 11, from the ownership of Roy H. McDonald to the region has been approved. Instead of money Mr. McDonald will get 500 yards of fill. The region has also offered to buy part of the other part of Lot 11 from Mr. Don Quick. Council received a letter from Mr. Quick objecting to region plans. According to the letter the portion the region-wants an option on is 17 feet wide. He says the region wants the same amount off the other side of the street. In his letter Mr. Quick says the present road allowance is 66 ft. The addition of 17 feet on each side of the road would bring the total width to 100 ft. enough to widen the road. He says trees would have to be removed, which would detract from his property. "I purchased the property to enjoy the land and the trees," says Mr. Quick, "not another 17 feet of shoulder." The estimate for purchase of land here is $26,500. "Surely m aking hetter use of the land the region now owns would be all that is required at this time," says Mr. Quick. TOWNLINE The estimates show $45,000 for land purchasing, moving hydro -poles and removing trees on regional road 23, the Scugog - Uxbridge townline. ISLAND ROAD The commissioner hopes to continue the work started last year on Scugog Island (regional road 7). He will seek $21,600 to finish buying land there, and to do some clearing and fencing. The commissioners report alse lists long 'term estim- ates for the jobs mentioned which would cost a total of. $1,445,400. If the long term, deferred program is carried through, Lilla Street will be widened, storm sewers installed and new pavement would be laid al a total estimated cost of $760,500. Anew project shows up on the long term, deferred list. Regional road 57 (Caesarea road) calls for $14.800 for "Land purchase and fencing." - ' Pump breaks (continued well on the Oyler site, but if we get two wells drilled and have no pumps, we are no further ahead.
