Port started slowly and found themselves behind as Lake- field scored the only goal of the first period. A shot that fooled Doug Larmer along - the ice. Ed Olsen tied the game at 1:35 of the second period assisted by P. Cochrane and Jones. Phil Cochrane put Port ahead 2 - 1 at 2.47 only to have Lakefield tie the game at 3:45 of the second period. Port Perry then took over Mike McQuade scoring from Cochrane and Jones and Robt. Baird from Kent Baird and Bill Bridge score was 4 -- 2, end of the second period. There were 3 more goals scored in the third period. Ed Olsen from Healey and Kent Baird. Stu Cochrane from Wackett and Healey and Scott Wilbur from Stu Coch- rane and McQuade. The ice conditions for this game were very poor. March 8, Port Perry came out flying the ice being myeh faster due to the cooler weather and really tested the Lakefield goalie early. But not till the 7 min. mark did they manage to put the puck in the net. Steve Jones scored first from Kent Baird and Larry Elson. Place 15th David Porter, Port Perry and his partner Barbara Berezowski placed 15th in the World Figure Skating Championships held in Munich, West Germany last week. They had hoped for a higher placing this year, but placed in the same position as last year. The couple competed in the dance class. Port Perry pressed on and Lakefield held them till 9;43 _of the second period, when Larry Elson scored. Then the goal started going in. at 11:56. Micke McQuade from Wackett and Wilbur, 12:29 Robt. Evans from Wackett and Elson, 14:47 Phil Coch- rane scored from Jones and McQuade. Lakefield = scored on Charley Durward in the third " period at 8:31 mark. 2d Olsen scored at 14:17 from Steve Jones. Robt. Evans got his second goal of the night at 19:04 from Scott Wilbur and Stu Cochrane scored a nice shot from the point at 19:42 to finish the game 8 -- 1 for Port Perry. In this series the Bantam outscored Lakefield 23 -- 4. Port Perry will now meet Sundridge possibly Wed: nesday or Thursday in Sundridge to play the second game in a 3 out of 5 series in Port Perry, Sunday night, March 17th. Watch for the Posters for this game. This series could really provide the local fans with some real good hockey and also pro- vide the Bantams with some tough competition. Atoms win series Zone Finals next Malmont Farms Atoms edge West Rouge 3to 2 to win the series three games straight. Despite the close score Malmont had a definite edge in territorial play but were unable to finish off their plays around the net. Both teams seemed to be moving at half speed as the ice was sluggish due to the mild weather. Scoring for Malmont were Vernon with two and John- son with a single. Potts assisted on all three goals. 'Healey and Andrews also picked up one assist each. Malmont now awaits the winner of the Stouffville - Uxbridge series. Malmont leaves for Brampton on March 16th where they will participate in Canada's largest Atom Tournament sponsored by the Lions Club.
