Bring March Forfeit \_ Calendars. Both meetings" ~~ have been changed due to the annual Presbyterial meeting on April 3. Friday evening was the climax for all the hard work of the Jr. Choir and its leaders. But it was worth it all when you consider the pleasure derived by those taking part and the aud- ience that packed the "Grace" Church. Some comments were It is getting better every year." It was well planned with an appreciative variety. It makes us realize just how much musical talent there is on Scugog. I'm sure there is still much more still to be found. We scarcely realize how fortunate we are to have leaders like the Free- mans, Becketts, Cawkers and Redmans. Musical instruments used were piano, guitars, violin, bangjo, bag-pipes, accor- dion clarinet and saxa- phone" played by George Freeman Sr. George Free- man Jr. Bob Cawker, Dr. Rennie, Mrs. Edna Beckett, Tim Pearce and Mrs. Bonnie Bell. As well as varied choir numbers, some outstanding vocal solos, duets or trios were sung by Celso Raffin, Linda East- wood, Sandra Pearce, the Parker sisters, David Red- man, Shelley Freeman, and little Randy and Jackie Freeman. The square dance in the Hillbilly Act was enjoyed by audience and participants alike. On Sunday, Rev. Pogue's message to the children was developed from the story of a little girl who besmudged ele] 2V-\V JB 4 THE GROWING MACHINES VersarllLLity wl ®) 26" Rotary --{\ Cultivator for -[1 76,10, 12 HP ri Gravely Convertibles e Cultivate the easy way with all-gear drive power. e Perfect gardening mate to Gravely Rotary Plow. eo All-gear drive, instant forward-neutral-reverse give durability and maneuverability to tractors ... wide variety of other attachments for mowing, grounds care, and snow removal. The point was that the mother cleaned her up again and the anticipated plan was continued: So, when we disobey God, we can be forgiven and trans- form our lives. . With the adults, we con- sidered the man Jesus who was to be crucified. Mahat- ma Gandhi said, for him, he would accept Jesus as a historian and his teachings were just lessons we should all learn and would approve "The Sermon on the Mount." Jesus started his carpen- try training at 8 or 9 and became responsible for the family at 15 when his father died. But it was not until 30 that he began his ministry. , There have been many great people who have done things for the world. When crucifixions were common and as many as 3,000 died in 1 day. It was the crucifixion of Jesus, of a simple back- ground, who stood out be- cause he died for us. Some News from Scugog Island find this difficult to accept like the little girl who was afraid of the dark and did not feel it was enough to have God's protection be- cause she wanted someone beside her with a face that she could see. On Sunday at noon, many young couples of the Island gathered in "Grace" Church basement to par- take of a hot informal luncheon offered by the people of the church. Al- though some found they were not able to attend as expected about 72 adults and children sat down with many new neighbours. After lunch several baby sitters took the children to the Municipal Hall for games and fun. Rev. Pogue con- ducted a sing song which really sounded great to the helpers in the kitchen. Then small groups were formed for general discussion. There seemed to be great enthusiasm and an expres- sed desire to continue such gatherings in the near fu- ture. We trust no one will feel left out and others will be included, as we learn about them and the children too will gain from Cub and Scout movement or other organizations. It was very evident that we have a fine calibre of young people on the Island and they can gain much from neighbourly associations. Here aré a few remind- ers. There will be a bale to pack for the "Head" U.C.W. april meeting. A "Spring Follies" musical at "Grace" on Thursday, April 18 and the Art and Craft Show will be just 1 week later. We hope to expand it from last year. ' 272 Scugog Road Wagg Bros. Texaco e licenced mechanics ° - REPAIRS TO ALL MAKES 985-7262 Church next Sunday, April 7, 11:15. B.R. Pogue in cuorge.
